As noted by the Steam tracking site—SteamDB—Sons of the Forest, has already topped 300,000 users on the platform, actively surviving the hungry tribe of cannibals. The new all-time peak of 306,934 was only recently crossed, and the inpour of players has continued consistently without any halts.
The title was averaging around 250,000 players in the early hours of its launch, and the community initially predicted a drop in the concurrency. However, the Sons of the Forest early access release has continued to gain popularity as the weekend approaches. It may reach over 500,000 players by the upcoming Sunday.
Sons of the Forest is competing closely with Grand Theft Auto V’s all-time peak at the time of writing, which currently boasts 364,548 users. It has already overwhelmed stellar entries like Monster Hunter Rise, Red Dead Redemption 2, Left 4 Dead 2, Rocket League, Rainbow Six Siege, Fall Guys, and others on the store.
Sons of the Forest has also been a popular hit among the Twitch community; the game’s viewers have skyrocketed in a few hours to reach over 777,579 watchers soon after its launch 17 hours ago. The current active Twitch viewers are lingering around the 250,000 mark, and the number may break its record over the weekend.
Moreover, Sons of the Forest has started vanquishing the sales of other recent releases soon after the early access launch. The stellar horror venture has already been hailed as the top seller on the Steam platform. In other words, Sons of the Forest has currently overshadowed titles like Hogwarts Legacy and Atomic Heart on the store.
The hundreds of thousands of players showing up to buy the game in bulk after launch also likely caused Valve’s servers to go down entirely. The recent outages can be checked at the renowned Downdetector site, which mostly coincided with nearly 250,000 users crowding around the eventful release of Sons of the Forest.
Furthermore, Endnight Games’ new endeavor has garnered a “very positive” reception on the digital storefront. The rating ratio stands at 86.50%, which is excellent for early access that is supposedly not ready for a full launch yet. The negative reception appears to complain about a few bugs.
Sons of the Forest is a multiplayer survival set on a cannibal-infested island, where the players have to find a lost billionaire and survive amid haunting anomalies in a vast open world.
The all-new sequel has only recently launched on the Steam storefront, but it has already attracted a massive number of active players. We can expect the newly launched entry to overwhelm some of the biggest releases on Steam if the players continue to flood the Sons of the Forest servers for a few more hours.
