Story Highlights
- Remnant 2 has been a monumental success so far for Gunfire Games, launching to rave reviews from critics and fans alike all across the spectrum. It’s the much-anticipated sequel to Remnant: From the Ashes and so far, the title has failed to disappoint.
- Back when the first Remnant was released, it peaked at about 48,000 players, which was 4 years ago. Now, however, data from SteamDB tells us that Remnant 2 has acquired approximately 83,000 users enjoying the title all together, and this is roughly double the figure as compared to the predecessor.
- The game is out now for a myriad of systems, including Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam, and Epic Games Store.
Gunfire Games’ latest venture following its spin on the Darksiders franchise is a Souls-like third-person shooter with RPG mechanics and a deep-dyed combat system. Its predecessor, Remnant: From the Ashes, had also sat well among critics and fans, but what the sequel has brought to the table is highly praise-worthy, and this can be noticed if you take a look at player figures alone.
Back when the first Remnant launched around 4 years ago, the shooter amassed a peak concurrent player count of 48,289 users on PC, as per SteamDB. On the other hand, Remnant 2 has just blown its forerunner out of the water with an 83,792 user count clocked. This spells good business for Gunfire Games and signals a complete release, save for a few minor hiccups here and there.
Although players who have bought the Ultimate Edition of the game have been enjoying the diverse offerings of Remnant 2 since 21 July, which is about three days earlier than the full release of the third-person shooter, it was only on launch day that an official trailer of the title was outed. In addition, player reports from various forums are pouring in, clarifying the type of issues users are facing at the moment.
That said, the developers are being proactive in this manner, and acknowledging pertinent issues with Remnant 2 on the fly. Some of the members of the developing team seem to be helping out on the r/remnantgame subreddit as well, ensuring that prominent matters get addressed as soon as something comes up. For instance, the heavily reported PS5 invite hassle has now been resolved.

This newfound success of Remnant 2 doesn’t come off as a secret, though, given how massively the title has improved over its predecessor. Our review of the game had us labeling it as “The Best Soulslike of the Year” since the sequel features a striking visual overhaul, sublime PC performance, which is something that’s hard to come by these days as far as new releases are concerned, and terrific class depth.
In other news, Gunfire is hard at work trying to mitigate some of the bugs that have been plaguing the optimal user experience of players across the spectrum. A hotfix was pushed out in recent times, taking care of the infamous slowdown issue while lifting progression blocks effectively. On the other hand, it’s been acknowledged that Remnant 2 was designed with upscaling in mind, which is becoming somewhat of a norm in modern-day gaming.
For those who missed it, one of the devs has openly stated that the title is a treat for those who love secrets and exploration. Even more so, even Remnant 2’s secrets have further secrets to dig into; perhaps that is the reason why hardcore players with more than 400 hours on the title have yet to fully excavate the innards of the third-person shooter.Remnant 2 is out now for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and has skipped last-gen consoles. There are various editions of the title that can be bought, and in case you forgot about the giveaway that Gunfire Games is hosting until 30 September, now’s your chance to win a high-res Alienware monitor for free just by signing up for the Remnant 2 newsletter.
