With different religions offering different advantages and dialogue options for the character, one must know of all religions in detail and which one is the best Starfield religion. Different religions can also make the playthrough somewhat unique, as players can get different missions and change how certain fractions treat them.
- There are three religions in Starfield: Enlightened, Universal, and House Va’ruun (Serpent’s Embrace).
- Players can choose their religion while they are creating their characters.
- Once players have chosen a religion, they do have the option to denounce it later on, but they can not pick a new religion.
- Each religion offers different advantages and disadvantages, and one common disadvantage among all religions is that they can’t be combined with other religious traits.
All Religions In Starfield Summarized
I have prepared a table enlisting all the advantages and disadvantages offered by each religion in Starfield:
Rank | Religions | Advantages | Disadvantages | Best For |
---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Serpent’s Embrace | -Gives you a perk that increases the player's health and O2 by +25 whenever they Grav Jump. | -The perk online last for 4 hours and players would need to grav jump again to reactivate it. -Can’t be combined with any other religion traits. | Long-term benefits |

3 | Enlightened | -Drink Pack: Water -Med Pack x5 -Penicillin X x2 -Settler Poncho Outfit -Charity in a Godless -Universe: Part I -Charity in a Godless -Universe: Part II -Charity in a Godless -Universe: Part III -Charity in a Godless -Universe: Part IV | -You will lose access to the Sanctum Universum store. -Can’t be combined with any other religious traits. | Alternative Early-game Phase |
3. Enlightened
- Why I Chose This: Although the Enlighted and Universal religions offer similar benefits, I found losing the Enlighted store less impactful than losing the Sanctum Universum store, thus putting this religion in last place.
Aside from getting some unique dialogues that are different for every religion, the main highlight for the Enlightened faith is that players get access to the chest full of items in the House of the Enlightened in Good Atlantis.
The argument of whether the items offered by the chest are worth it or not is separate entirely. These items may help out in the very early game but not so much later on.
The items that players will obtain from the chest are:
- Drink Pack: Water
- Med Pack x5
- Penicillin X x2
- Settler Poncho Outfit
- Charity in a Godless Universe: Part I
- Charity in a Godless Universe: Part II
- Charity in a Godless Universe: Part III
- Charity in a Godless Universe: Part IV
- Rewarded with a chest of goods.
- Special discounts at the Enlighted Store.
- Gain exclusive dialogue with followers of the Enlighted religion.
- Players lose access to the Sanctum Universum Store.
2. Universal
- Why I Chose This: For getting a strong headstart in Starfield’s early-game phase without any conditions, Universal is the way to go.
As for the advantages offered by the Universal religion, it is pretty much the same as the Enlightened, with minor differences, as players will get access to a special chest. But aside from that, players will also get a major discount at the Sanctum Universum store.
The items that players will obtain from the chest are:
- Addichrone x2
- Boom Pop! Orange
- Festive Neocity Poncho
- Med Pack x5
- Sanctum Universum, Vol 1 (book)
- Sanctum Universum, Vol 2 (book)
- Sanctum Universum, Vol 3 (book)
- Rewarded with a chest of goods.
- Special discounts at the Sanctum Universum Store.
- Gain exclusive dialogue with followers of the Raised Universal religion.
- Players lose access to the Enlighted Store.
1. Serpent’s Embrace
- Why I Chose This: This is the only religion in Starfield that gives you a benefit that you can actively notice and use as you progress, which is why it’s arguably my favorite.
The Serpent’s Embrace is a rather unique religion when compared to the Enlightened and Universal. The unique dialogues offered by the Serpent’s Embrace religion are more specific and do not offer a special chest.
Rather, the main advantage of Serpent’s Embrace religion is that it gives you a perk that increases the player’s health and O2 by +25 whenever you Grav Jump in your ship. The perk lasts for four hours.
- Permanent increase in health and O2.
- Gain exclusive dialogue with followers of the Serpent’s Embrace religion.
- No special chest is rewarded.
- Lose access to both Enlighted and Sanctum Universum Store.
- Health and O2 stats are decreased if players don’t Grav Jump every 4 hours.
My Take On The Best Religion
While the extra items you get from the special chests are somewhat good in the early game. However, If I was given a choice between some extra items that’ll help me out in the early game or +25 health and O2 for the entire game, I would pick the latter any time. Therefore, the Serpent’s Embrace easily takes the crown for Starfield’s best Religion.
One can counter by saying that the Serpent Embrace perks only last for four hours after a Grav Jump, but that is not bad by any means, considering how the Grav Jump is free and easy to do.
And with that, my guide on explaining all the religions and which one is the best religion in Starfield comes to an end. I hope my guide helped you out. While you are at it, why not read the All Skill Tree guide or a guide on What is the Max Level Cap in Starfield? Or consider reading this Reddit post where players are discussing which religion they opt for. But that is all from me.
