Grounded has been in early access for a long time now. The survival game launched its pre-release version way back in 2020 on the Xbox and Windows. It’s been two years since that day and the full version of the game is still in the works. Obsidian gave us an expected release date of July 28, 2022, for the full version. But, that might not materialize according to accredited industry insider Jeff Grubb’s new info.
Jeff Grubb, in a recent episode of GrubbSnax on the YouTube channel Giant Bomb, said that the full version Grounded will see a further delay of one year. The insider gave us this info while talking about the first-party Xbox games coming soon. A complete version of Grounded is one of these original titles coming to Xbox in the near future. However, that is not happening until at least next year according to Grubb.
As we all know the full version of Grounded is slated to release this year in July. But, Jeff said he checked in with his sources and that isn’t the case anymore. In short, we should fully expect another delay for the full version of Grounded if Grubb’s sources are true.
Obsidian launched the early access version of the game in July 2020. Players were only able to play through 20% of the campaign in this early access version. The studio only released this to get some fan feedback before launching the rest of the game. However even this version amassed over 5 million players in only 6 months
Grounded has been doing really well in it’s early access mode. Obsidian recently said that over 10 million players have played the game. This is some milestone for a game that isn’t even complete. It’s also really popular on the Xbox Game Pass and had a good outing on steam. And all of this is no surprise considering the premise of the cooperative survival game.
But, even with all this success we still haven’t seen the full version of the game in nearly 2 years and it seems like fans are going to have to wait for yet another year according to Grubb. While that is a bummer, if Obsidian can deliver a better experience using this time, it will be worth it. Grounded is still fun to play even in this incomplete version but hopefully we see the release of the full version soon.
