Story Highlights
- Destiny 2: The Final Shape DLC has unexpectedly become 2024’s highest-rated release on Metacritic.
- It is also enjoying similar high scores on OpenCritic, proving the DLC’s immense success.
- The scores may eventually drop a little as more reviews are added to the aggregator sites.
It seems that Destiny 2’s new DLC has finally lived up to everyone’s expectations. As per the current critic and user review scores on Metacritic, The Final Shape has quickly risen through the ranks to become 2024’s highest-rated release. In other words, the 95 Metascore has become high enough to leave other major 2024 games in the dust.
The new hearty campaign has won the hearts of many reviewers and players alike, which has caused a huge bump in scores. One might not be satisfied with the results of a single review aggregator site, so I’ve also looked at OpenCritic scores. As one might expect, the Destiny 2 expansion has also dominated the yearly chart there.
Bungie Has Finally Whipped Up A Worthy Destiny 2 DLC
Some of the game’s recent DLCs were quite poorly received because of various issues—Lightfall comes rushing to mind. So, seeing The Final Shape succeed has made many players celebrate in the community. The epic closure of the Light and Darkness saga, well-written quests, gripping raids, enjoyable open-world activities, and other appreciated changes have many saying that Bungie has finally redeemed itself.

While the expansion has been a success so far, it is worth noting that scores could eventually drop by a bit as more reviews come out. The Final Shape came out on June 4, 2024, for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms. It was previously expected to come out in February this year but was eventually delayed for some final touchups.
