Xbox CEO Asha Sharma wants the gaming business back on a growth trajectory within the next fiscal year.
According to an internal memo obtained by The Verge, Sharma told employees that Xbox must return to both player and revenue growth during Microsoft’s 2027 fiscal year. The target gives the company roughly 12 months to reverse its recent struggles and prove that its strategy can produce sustainable results.
Xbox Has Four Priorities For Fiscal Year 2027

Sharma’s memo reportedly sets four central priorities for Xbox:
- CORE: Strengthen our platform, led by console
- CONTENT: Grow great games into global franchises
- CREATION: Make Minecraft the world’s creator platform
- CONNECTION: Extend the worlds that fans love
They will evaluate its progress in three stages: first is to return to growth by fiscal year 2027, second to use the Four c’s for revenue and player acceleration, and third is to have a large daily player base with sustained growth by fiscal year 2030.
According to a CNBC report on the internal strategy. Sharma argued that the company cannot “live on past successes” or remain “trapped by past failures.” She said that Xbox will have to learn from both to meet its goals by 2030.
“We will learn from both and put our energy into creating what players will love for decades
Xbox Wants To Reach 1 Billion People Daily
Fiscal 2027 is only the immediate target. Sharma reportedly wants Xbox to reach more than one billion people every day eventually, with an interim goal of reaching half that number by 2030.
That is an enormous ambition, particularly for a brand that has traditionally been measured through console sales and Game Pass subscriptions.
According to Sharma, Xbox currently has 100 million players each day, 500 million each month, and 1 billion each year.
Fiscal 2027 Will Be the Real Test

Sharma has effectively given the business one year to start growing again. She has already made massive changes to the leadership since her joining.
In July 2026, she sold Ninja Theory and Undead Labs while allowing Double Fine and Compulsion Games to go independent. Announced that Gears of War E-Day and Clockwork Revolution will be Xbox exclusives. Fired approximately 3,200 employees. And doubled down on mega hit IPs and their expansion.
By the end of fiscal 2027, Xbox’s player activity and revenue should make it clear whether this wider ecosystem strategy is working or whether another course correction is coming.
