The Blood of Dawnwalker released on September 3 and sold 1 million copies in 2 days. Narrative director Jakub Szamalek celebrated the milestone and announced that they are now looking for a lead writer to craft the next chapter of the Dawnwalker saga.

I’m looking for a Lead Writer to help me and the narrative team craft the next chapter in the Dawnwalker saga.” – Jakub Szamalek

He was specific about the kind of writer he wants too, someone who “writes EXCEPTIONALLY well” with a genuine track record of excellence and team management experience.

The actual posting, spotted on the Polish job board Skillshot, doesn’t confirm much about the sequel’s story directly, but a few requirements are telling. Applicants need the “ability to create interactive, non-linear stories and dialogues,” matching the original’s branching approach, along with “familiarity with the history and folklore of Central and Eastern Europe.”

That second requirement lines up with speculation that the sequel will stay rooted in the same Carpathian-inspired setting, at least for now. The role also calls for a minimum of six years of writing or narrative design experience in the games industry.

Part Of A Bigger Planned Saga

Rebel Wolves has talked about a multi-game “saga” since before the first game even released. Director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz has said the Dawnwalker games will span centuries, continents, and cultures across the globe.

At a Summer Game Fest showing, Tomaszkiewicz confirmed save data will carry forward between entries:

When you have the last save, your choices will go with you. From the beginning, we were telling people that we’re planning a saga, and right now, this is the proof that we are doing it.”

Don’t expect the sequel soon, though. Rebel Wolves still has post-launch work ahead on the original, including bug fixes and free DLC it’s already promised.  The game shipped with its own rocky pre-launch stretch over console framerate that the studio had to walk back days before release. A sequel built on a AAA scale takes 4-6 years; hiring a Lead Writer now is the start of that process, not a sign the next game is coming any time soon.
