Final Fantasy XV Took Nearly 6 Years To Reach 10 Million Units Sold

The chronicles of Final Fantasy XV seem to be never-ending.

Final Fantasy XV continues making headlines even after 6 years of its dominating release. The game has garnered much support and love over the years, and the servers are more populated than ever. The famous JRPG took ten long years to develop and has captured several milestones under its belt.

Final Fantasy XV is currently under multiple prominent platforms and also on next-generation consoles. The PlayStation Plus Collection also delivers an entirely free digital copy of Final Fantasy XV Royal Edition. Still, it’s fuzzy whether downloads through the service add to the total number of sales.

Final Fantasy XV has evolved over the years and now stands atop the JRPG genre with its allure. SQUARE ENIX appraised the game today by announcing another milestone it recently hit. Final Fantasy XV has garnered over 10 million units sold worldwide, making Final Fantasy XV one of the best-selling entries in the series to date.

The translation for the tweet reads, “[Final Fantasy XV] has achieved cumulative worldwide sales of 10 million units! Thank you for your support! Thank you for your continued support #FF15!” That’s not all; Final Fantasy XV has achieved the 10 million mark in just six years of its life cycle.

Final Fantasy XV, brewed by Luminous Productions and published by SQUARE ENIX, was initially released in November 2016 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and starred the triad of friends, with Noctis, the Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Lucis, as the main protagonist.

The game has aged like fine cheese and continued setting records once deemed improbable. Last year’s release of its latest expansion, Endwalker, boosted the game to the moon, and the title accumulated more players than ever.

The PlayStation 1 classic, Final Fantasy VII, is stated to have sold paramount numbers of nearly 13 million units. On the contrary, Final Fantasy X and the online MMO, Final Fantasy XIV, also wear the symbol of the 10 million sales achievement.

While the Final Fantasy VII Remake also sold like hotcakes, with over five million copies as of August 2020, earning it the “highest-selling digital release on the PlayStation platform in Square Enix’s history.” These subsequent sale milestones serve as a catalyst for SQUARE ENIX to develop the next prominent installment in the Final Fantasy series.
