PUBG Patch 18.2 Adds More Graphical Options For Next Gen Consoles

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) is the good-old face of the battle-royale genre we know and love. In PUBG, 100 players are pitted against each other on maps filled with biomes and buildings and the last survivor wins the chicken dinner. The game, inspired by a film, has primarily contributed to video games’ widespread battle royale genre.

PUBG has come a long way and now boasts an enormous community of players fighting for the chicken dinner daily. The title has been at constant odds with other battle royales it inspired. The novelty of this battle royale has surely withered away with time, but its unique focus on realistic simulation and massive maps means the game has not lost its allure.

The next PUBG update is pushing the game to a new front by bringing a bundle of exciting changes. Update 8.12 brings a new map dubbed Deston, next-gen optimizations, new gameplay features, new weapon and vehicle, new graphical options for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X, and much more.

Deston is PUBG’s 9th map where players hunt each other down in the near-future devastated map. It is the same size as Erangel and Miramar (8×8 km). The map incorporates a large variety of diversified biomes and areas of interest: Arena, Hydroelectric Dam, Concert, Swamp, and Ripton, to name a few. The map also features a flooded downtown, muddy swamps, skylines that aim for the sky, etc.

The update will also incorporate a new feature called Ascender, which will help gamers climb huge skylines and create Mission Impossible moments. There are places in Deston that can only be accessed by Drones. The map also has security doors that can only be breached by keys found around the map. There are fuel pumps too that can help you refill gas, or can simply be blown up to wipe off enemies.

The new weapon is named O12, which is a high-capacity weapon featuring slug ammo combined with a huge volume of fire, making it lethal both in mid-range and short-range. The weapon is also relatively long-range when compared to other shotguns so it will be a delight for players. The new vehicle can be utilized on both land and water, called Airboat. It can carry up to 5 players and is available on the new Deston map.

The update also brings a whole new feature, called Workshop that allows you to craft your own skins with “never-seen-before” materials. The Workshop menu has been integrated into the lobby and regular or special crafting can be chosen.

From July 12, Gamers who play on Xbox Series X will be able to enjoy PUBG at 4K / 60fps. The latest update is also bringing an choice to switch between two types of anti-aliasing: FXAA (fast approximate anti-aliasing) or TAA (temporal anti-aliasing). The battle royale ran at 1080p prior so the anti-aliasing options are new.

PlayStation 5 players will also get to choose between both anti-aliasing settings provided they will get 60fps for 1440. PlayStation 5 does not natively provide 1440p outputs so players who do not have 4k displays, will likely get outputs of 1080p / 60fps. The choice between two anti-aliasing options is also an amazing prospect since both FXAA and TAA have pros and cons.

The preference may vary from player to player. FXAA causes a lot of overall blurs and smudging to achieve a smoother edge while TAA results in better softening of sharper edges but can lead to some ghosting issues. All in all, it’s an enhancement of the earlier resolutions of 1080p.
