What entails ahead is our specialized collection of the best games out there for those who like to ride solo.

1. Forza Horizon 5

Forza Horizon 5
Forza Horizon 5

Prepare to embark on an epic journey in Mexico in Forza Horizon 5 as you spearhead ground-breaking expeditions across the country with your fleet of over-the-top cars. What makes the in-game Forza Horizon stand out is its dynamically evolving environment. Weather changes shift from one paradigm to the other on the fly, and the transition takes place so seamlessly.

Deserts, jungles, momentous cities, canyons, snow-ridden volcanoes, and beaches—there’s no shortage of terrains in the world of Forza Horizon 5. There’s even a campaign system in the title that lets you experience the diverse stories of different characters. This makes us refer to the game as simply one of the best single-player campaign games on Xbox One.

Feel free to implement specialized races, challenges, stunts, and even more into your races to add more depth than ever. In addition, Xbox Game Studios have taken up car customization to a whole different level in Forza Horizon 5.

You’ll now be able to slap on convertible tops on vehicles with the ability to open or close them at will. In addition, you can even paint the brake calipers of your rides—a very first in the Forza Horizon franchise.

  • Forza Horizon 5’s lighting is incredibly well done and does a great job of drawing you into the game.
  • The tracks have a lovely variety; each one is unique in its own way.
  • You can freely roam in Forza Horizon 5.
  • Amazing customization options are available.
  • There is a wide variety of vehicles.

2. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

The second spot we’ve got for you here belongs to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. It would’ve been a vile shame if a title of this stature couldn’t make it on the list. The 2015 Game Awards winner for Best Score and Music and Best Action/Adventure is an absolute treat to enjoy on the Xbox One, offering players the freedom they need to do more and be more as Solid Snake takes on the world. It truly doesn’t get any better than this.

Metal Gear Solid V brilliantly reinvents itself and improves upon previous entries in a dozen different aspects. The fact that it’s an open-world venture instead of featuring a typical style of gameplay is outright surprising. What’s even more baffling is how the developers—Konami Digital Entertainment—managed to pull it all off so brilliantly.

Everything from the combat and music down to the very pattern of enemy behavior, difficulty, level design, and replayability is just surreal in The Phantom Pain. If you’re someone who likes to take a good look at the environment while playing sandbox-oriented titles, you’re going to love the superb attention to detail that the creators of this marvel have incorporated in-game.

  • Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain boasts a captivating storyline.
  • The visuals and design are impressive and stunning.

  • Some side missions in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain can be dull and repetitive.
  • The lengthy cutscenes may not suit all players.

3. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

best single player xbox one games
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has won a bevy of accolades, including the Game of the Year award, and is still managing to go strong in 2022. CD Projekt Red has truly managed to pull something incredible with the latest entry in the Witcher franchise, offering the very best in terms of level design, open-world combat, and gorgeous visuals.

The in-game map featured by the developers isn’t anything to take lightly. It’s too huge to encompass all in a single play-through unless you’re a huge RPG fanatic who has nothing better to do for the remainder of the day. The plot of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt follows the tale of Geralt as he takes on a vicious adventure full of twists and thrills.

Where all other games falter and bow down in despair, this title rises above surreal heights, thereby redeeming its name as one of the best single-player games players can play on Xbox One. To talk about the insane replay value, there is seemingly an endless number of main missions, side quests, and other activities that indulge you inside the in-game world like never before in a Witcher game.

In case you’re a combat fanatic, you’ll absolutely adore the depth of variety featured in Witcher 3. There’s an exhaustive array of weapons to pick up in both hands, employ spells, and other ancient techniques. Geralt has picked up from his early days. There’s never a dull moment with this one, and we can at least assure you of that.

  • The design of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s background and environment is exceptional.
  • The game’s combat is satisfying and seamless, making for an enjoyable and engaging experience.

4. Elden Ring

best single player xbox one games
Elden Ring

With the pace Elden Ring has picked up ever since its release in February 2022, we’re seeing the title easily being set up for this year’s Game of the Year award. If you’ve got an Xbox One and are a fan of open-world, mystical adventures with a tad bit of difficulty to spice up the scenario, Hidetaka Miyazaki’s latest work of art is your best bet.

Elden Ring is the first to feature free-roam gameplay with a vast map and related map fragments to explore and unlock. There are several distinct regions to unlock, with each one being harder and more intuitive than the previous one. Combine this with the best bosses in the game, and you have a tip-top package of a game here.

Prepare to don a whole arsenal of weaponry, ranging from Katanas, Hammers, Swords, Axes, and Flails to Poleblades, Whips, Colossal Swords, and Greatswords on your character, and just go to town with them. There’s just no shortage of regard to the weaponry you can employ and rain death on your enemies.

That is to say, some weapons that you’ll get to pick up or unlock in the Lands Between are too good to pass up for any of the next ones. It’s one reason why players create a whole build around these specific armaments. To name a few, Moonlight and Rivers of Blood are two of the sickest Katanas that you’ll ever get to acquire in the action RPG.

Both of these are absolute monsters when it truly boils down to it, and once you get the ball rolling with them, there’s just no going back. Then comes the slew of Remembrance Weapons in Elden Ring, which are highly curated, iconic armaments obtained only after trading in Remembrances with Enia the Finger Reader at the Roundtable Hold.

There are even the best Remembrances to duplicate in the game that allow you to get a taste of both sides of the Remembrance reward. You either choose one out of two legendary weapons or simply take the easy way out and trade in the Boss Soul for some good old gold.

It ultimately cuts down to you whether you’re looking for some instant moolah or you wish to acquire some of the Elden Ring’s best weapons instead.

  • Elden Ring has a very attractive open world.
  • Some of the areas are extremely immersive with detailed environments.
  • Elden Ring creates fascinating and enduring characters.

That is to say, the game follows a fairly enticing storyline where you, the protagonist, going by the name of Kyle Crane, have to investigate a zombie-overrun city Harran.

You must push the boundaries of your capabilities, and be able to adapt to the surroundings to become the strongest warrior in the parkour arena slash ultimate zombie slayer to defeat all the obstacles Harran is able to give you. And when you get the game’s in-game Grappling Hook, you don’t think about how fun Dying Light is going to be from now onwards.

The parkour-based game mechanic, when paired with the game’s distinct combat engine is perfect for the latest platform. Additionally, the reality that Techland created the game using a first-person viewpoint will help the IP have our applause.

Not to be left out lastly, the story of the first Dying Light has been followed by a major expansion known as The Following. It expands the open-world environment that the game is set into higher dimensions and broadens its scope toward driving vehicles and also. One could only imagine at this point all the different possibilities and enjoyable strategies to take advantage of your opponents.

Follow the tale of Arthur Morgan as the cowboy hat donner tries to outlive the fall of the Wild West and find peace among all the surrounding chaos. The much-acclaimed sequel to the original Red Dead is finally here.

This is a game so beautiful that you’re probably going to be depressed after finishing it off. You got that right. It’s at a level where seldom other single-player games can even ponder to compete against. Red Dead Redemption II embraces the bar and takes it to an immeasurable level where we think only the sequel of the title can strive to outclass it.

It was released 4 years from now, way back in 2018, and has been the definitive single-player experience on Xbox One, and all other available platforms, for that matter. The year it was launched in, Red Dead Redemption II went on to win four different distinctions at the Game Awards. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

Furthering the list of the best single-player Xbox One games is none other than the genius of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Before we go on any further, let us clear it beforehand that the title in question isn’t for the faint of heart, similar to the Elden Ring or any other Soulslike venture of FromSoftware. Prepare to embark on an epic tale of Wolf—our shinobi protagonist who has to take on never-seen-before horrors to protect his master.

In his right arm rests a Katana named Kusabimaru. The armament was bestowed upon Wolf by his master Kuro, the Divine Heir. Contrary to other RPG games like Dark Souls, Bloodborne, or even Elden Ring, Sekiro doesn’t allow you to switch your primary weapon. It’s you and your Kusabimaru against the world in this single-player action adventure

A story of betrayal is what characterizes the lore of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, not to mention the diversity of other elements making the experience altogether amazing. The level design of the Soulslike doesn’t fail to impress at any point during the campaign, pitting our one-handed Wolf against formidable foes of immeasurable strength time and time again.

With that said, don’t expect things to be that monotonous. There’s a reason why our protagonist is called Sekiro. The latter is a Japanese word that literally translates to “one-armed wolf.” The other major limb of Wolf fits a prosthetic arm, and here’s where a ton of variety springs up. Feel free to collect a versatile variety of prosthetic arms from the vast, vile stretches of Ashina.

  • The stealth of Sekiro isn’t the best because it feels awkward and unsatisfying.

best single player games for xbox one
Hollow Knight

To talk about a diverse Metroidvania indie platformer, Hollow Knight is what comes forward with its unique brilliance. This fun-filled title isn’t your typical sidescroller. Instead, it borrows the difficulty level from the Soulsborne games, which are Hidetaka Miyazaki’s collection of front-running IPs. You are in control of a non-descript knight wielding a sword called Nail.

You use your armament to not only cut down foes of all kinds but also to interact with the environment in many ways. Everything from the very lore of Hollow Knight down to your run-ins with the bosses of the game is curated with perfection. It’s no surprise now that most of the best titles on Xbox One are already a part of Microsoft’s Game Pass subscription, including Hitman 3. 23. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

Resident Evil 7, that is to say, is a first-person shooter with suspenseful gameplay. It’s a personal favorite over at eXputer as well. There are some jumpscares in there that frighten the living heck out of the player, especially when you’re repeatedly coming in contact with Jack Baker.

A whole rollercoaster of emotions awaits you in this horror thriller of a title as you uncover dark, deep mysteries surrounding the Baker family. The name of protagonist is Ethan Winters—an ordinary civilian who sets out to find his wife after he receives an exceptionally unsettling video message from her.

The fact of the matter is that the message is received three years after Mia—Ethan’s wife—goes absent for the first time. When the protagonist finally stumbles upon the homestead where Mia is allegedly trapped, a whole swath of mishaps starts manifesting immediately.

Ethan has to crawl through a lot to come out on top of the Baker family, not to mention getting his arm severed and being forced to improvise regardless. As you progress through the storyline, you find out how the Baker family came about to be infected and the true reason Mia went missing in the first place. 24. Mass Effect Legendary Edition

Mass Effect Legendary Edition
Mass Effect Legendary Edition

The second-last entry on this list belongs to Mass Effect Legendary Edition, allowing you to relive the complete cinematic saga of the iconic third-person shooter franchise. This particular game variant lets you enjoy the nerve-wracking adventures of Commander Shepard—the chief protagonist of the Mass Effect series—in stunning 4K visuals. There’s just no putting on a lighter note how beautiful this title looks in its revisited form.

Strap yourself for an adventure of a lifetime as you take command of the Normandy and embark on single-player campaigns like never before. There are more than 40 different DLCs for the entirety of the trilogy that is included in the Legendary Edition. That is to say, the latter encompasses all three of the front-running Mass Effect games: Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3.

If you’re after some of the best single-player sci-fi shooter games on Xbox One consolidated with a touch of thrill and rip-roaring action, you may as well shoot for Mass Effect without breaking a sweat. It’s rated quite high and is known for its inclusion of memorable characters, gripping storyline, and terrific combat gameplay. This is not the IP you’d want to miss out on while owning any of the Xbox consoles.

  • The visuals in Mass Effect Legendary Edition are stunning.
  • The story in Mass Effect Legendary Edition is one of the greatest space tales.
  • The characters in the game are exceptional.

  • The enemy AI in the game is very unintelligent.
  • The facial animations are inferior to the body animations.
  • Mass Effect Legendary Edition prioritizes the narrative heavily, with gameplay taking a backseat.

25. Gears 5

best single player xbox one games
Gears 5

Topping the guide off is perhaps, one of the most eccentric shooters ever to grace the platform of Xbox One. Gears 5 is the last title to advance the Gears of War franchise, which happens to be utterly popular on Microsoft’s famous line-up of gaming consoles.

The well-acclaimed saga that this series has created is currently finalized by the epilogue of Gears 5. However, the events of the latter do indicate that a sequel might be in the works. Anyhow, Gears 5 marks itself as the most advanced Gears of War title to date. It arrives loaded to the brim with features that allow the player full control over their gameplay experience.

For instance, it’s possible to take full advantage of the included accessibility features and make the best of custom controller mapping, adaptive controller functionality, and even the option to toggle on single stick movement.

The game in question is no less than a rollercoaster of emotions. You’ll find the protagonist delving deep into her inner self and channeling hidden mysteries to uncover the truth behind the destruction and war. Kait Diaz will be front and center in this iteration of the Gears series. As for the rest of the major plot points, we’d like to keep things spoiler-free here, so do try out what is otherwise the best Xbox One shooter game yourself.

  • Gears 5 includes many varied modes, offering you tons of different environments and challenges to complete.
  • The characters are well-written and have a decent amount of depth.
  • The AI in gears 5 is improved and makes battles a lot more fun.

  • The camera is not the best and can take away from the immersion.
  • The microtransactions in Gears 5 might be a huge turn-off for some players.
  • Some of the open-world missions can drag on unnecessarily.

Xbox One, right alongside the PlayStation 4 measured up to be the genre-defining console of their time, but as with every other thing in the universe, everyone and everything has its replacement. Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 have seemingly come into the picture now, providing an exceptionally bright prospect as to what the future holds.

However, even though the latter two consoles are prevailing in the ripe tech-forward age of 2022, Xbox One is still a relevant platform to pay heed to. It’s going strong with the latest releases arriving it, such as Elden Ring and Red Dead Redemption II. These two are some of the best single-player campaign games on Xbox One, and you have to try them out if you’re a solo-play enthusiast.

Our personal favorite on the list so far is Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, offering a tip-top Soulslike experience without the added difficulty of stamina constraints. The adrenaline in my body that Sekiro alone has pumped is enough to keep the time spent with it ever so memorable for the years to come. Not sure if it’ll entice you in the same way, but it is worth a shot nonetheless—we can assure you that.

The same goes for the rest of the titles that we’ve picked for the guide. And if all else fails to get the ball rolling for you, don’t hesitate to try out the genius of Forza Horizon 5, which is essentially the best single player game on Xbox One by a far mile. Anyhow, do comment down below and let us know your thoughts on the matter at hand. As always, eXputer wishes you good luck!
