What entails ahead is my specialized collection of the best games out there for those who like to ride solo.

1. Forza Horizon 5

Forza Horizon 5
Forza Horizon 5

Prepare to embark on an epic journey in Mexico in Forza Horizon 5 as you spearhead ground-breaking expeditions across the country with your fleet of over-the-top cars. What makes the in-game Forza Horizon stand out is its dynamically evolving environment. Weather changes shift from one paradigm to the other on the fly, and the transition takes place so seamlessly.

Deserts, jungles, momentous cities, canyons, snow-ridden volcanoes, and beaches—there’s no shortage of terrains in the world of Forza Horizon 5. There’s even a campaign system in the title that lets you experience the diverse stories of different characters. This makes us refer to the game as simply one of the best single-player campaign games on Xbox One.

Feel free to implement specialized races, challenges, stunts, and even more into your races to add more depth than ever. In addition, Xbox Game Studios have taken up car customization to a whole different level in Forza Horizon 5.

When it comes to the racing genre, no other franchise comes close to beating Forza. I can easily say that Forza Horizon 5 is by far the Best Racing Game on all platforms, not only Xbox One!

Pros:

  • Forza Horizon 5 graphics and world design is amazing.
  • The tracks have a lovely variety; each one is unique in its own way.
  • Amazing customization options are available.
  • There is a wide variety of vehicles.

Cons:

  • You can almost unlock anything with the microtransactions, which can resemble pay-to-win.
  • There may be numerous loadings, which can be very annoying.

2. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

The second spot we’ve got for you here belongs to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. It would’ve been a vile shame if a title of this stature couldn’t make it on the list. The 2015 Game Awards winner for Best Score and Music and Best Action/Adventure is an absolute treat to enjoy on the Xbox One, offering players the freedom they need to do more and be more as Solid Snake takes on the world. It truly doesn’t get any better than this.

Metal Gear Solid V brilliantly reinvents itself and improves upon previous entries in a dozen different aspects. The fact that it’s an open-world venture instead of featuring a typical style of gameplay is outright surprising. What’s even more baffling is how the developers—Konami Digital Entertainment—managed to pull it all off so brilliantly.

Everything from the combat and music down to the very pattern of enemy behavior, difficulty, level design, and replayability is just surreal in The Phantom Pain. If you’re someone who likes to take a good look at the environment while playing sandbox-oriented titles, you’re going to love the superb attention to detail that the creators of this marvel have incorporated in-game.

Pros:

  • Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain boasts a captivating storyline.
  • The visuals and design are impressive and stunning.

Cons:

  • Some side missions in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain can be dull and repetitive.
  • The lengthy cutscenes may not suit all players.

3. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

best single player xbox one games
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has won a bevy of accolades, including the Game of the Year award, and is still managing to go strong in 2024. CD Projekt Red has truly managed to pull something incredible with the latest entry in the Witcher franchise, offering the very best in terms of level design, open-world combat, and gorgeous visuals.

The in-game map featured by the developers isn’t anything to take lightly. It’s too huge to encompass all in a single play-through unless you’re a huge RPG fanatic who has nothing better to do for the remainder of the day. The plot of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt follows the tale of Geralt as he takes on a vicious adventure full of twists and thrills.

Where all other games falter and bow down in despair, this title rises above surreal heights, thereby redeeming its name as one of the best single-player games players can play on Xbox One. To talk about the insane replay value, there is seemingly an endless number of main missions, side quests, and other activities that indulge you inside the in-game world like never before in a Witcher game.

My Take: Out of all the single-player games I’ve tried on Xbox One, nothing comes close to The Witcher 3. The game was able to grip me thanks to its extremely interesting storyline, open-world, and characters. Not only that but Witcher 3 DLCs also blew me away!

Pros:

  • The design of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s background and environment is exceptional.
  • The game’s combat is satisfying and seamless, making for an enjoyable and engaging experience.
  • With its stunning and intricate graphics, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt comes to life.
  • As you progress through the game, there are numerous areas to explore in the vast open world.

Cons:

  • Long loading times can be tedious and unenjoyable.
  • Alchemy and crafting systems can be overwhelming.

4. Elden Ring

best single player xbox one games
Elden Ring

Elden Ring picked up the 2022 Game of the Year award, which itself should be enough of a reason to play it. If you’ve got an Xbox One and are a fan of open-world, mystical adventures with a tad bit of difficulty to spice up the scenario, Hidetaka Miyazaki’s latest work of art is your best bet.

Elden Ring is the first to feature free-roam gameplay with a vast map and related map fragments to explore and unlock. There are several distinct regions to unlock, with each one being harder and more intuitive than the previous one. Combine this with the best bosses in the game, and you have a tip-top package of a game here.

Prepare to don a whole arsenal of weaponry, ranging from Katanas, Hammers, Swords, Axes, and Flails to Poleblades, Whips, Colossal Swords, and Greatswords on your character, and just go to town with them. There’s just no shortage of regard to the weaponry you can employ and rain death on your enemies.

When it comes to world design and size, Elden Ring surely hit the ball out of the park. Each region is beautifully crafted and is full of life. Also, players can sense that the world is interconnected, which is a recurring factor in Soulsborne games. Nevertheless, apart from its challenge, world design and music were a huge reason why I spent hundreds of hours in Elden Ring!

Pros:

  • Elden Ring has a very attractive open world.
  • Some of the areas are extremely immersive with detailed environments.
  • Elden Ring creates fascinating and enduring characters.
  • You get completely absorbed in the story thanks to the excellent writing.
  • Elden Ring’s combat system is distinct and a lot of fun.

Cons:

  • AI can be a bit dumb sometimes.

5. Dying Light

Dying Light
Dying Light

Dying Light isn’t just an endless affair with a world teeming with zombies. Another part that makes the venture even more exciting is the prevalence of human enemies with ulterior motives. That is to say, the game follows a fairly enticing storyline where you, the protagonist, going by the name of Kyle Crane, have to investigate a zombie-overrun city Harran.

You must push the boundaries to become the strongest warrior in the parkour arena slash ultimate zombie slayer game. And when you get the game’s in-game Grappling Hook, you don’t think about how fun Dying Light is going to be from now onwards.

The parkour-based game mechanic, when paired with the game’s distinct combat engine is perfect for the latest platform. Additionally, the reality that Techland created the game using a first-person viewpoint will help the IP have my applause.

Not to be left out lastly, the story of the first Dying Light has been followed by a major expansion known as The Following. It expands the open-world environment that the game into higher dimensions and broadens its scope toward driving vehicles and also. One could only imagine at this point all the different possibilities and enjoyable strategies to take advantage of your opponents.

Pros:

  • Offers an exciting and thrilling gaming experience.
  • Its combat mechanic is satisfying.
  • Dying Light offers a rich and compelling story.

Cons:

  • Dying Light’s control options require some time to become familiar with.
  • Dying Light contains a few animation issues.

6. Red Dead Redemption 2

best single player games for xbox one
Red Dead Redemption II

Red Dead Redemption 2 isn’t just a game—it’s a whole experience to immerse yourself in. Prepare yourself to embark on a journey of a lifetime in this western gunslinging open-world venture. Follow the tale of Arthur Morgan as the cowboy hat donner tries to outlive the fall of the Wild West and find peace among all the surrounding chaos.

This is a game so beautiful that you’re probably going to be depressed after finishing it off. You got that right. It’s at a level where seldom other single-player games can even ponder to compete against. Red Dead Redemption II embraces the bar and takes it to an immeasurable level where I think only the sequel of the title can strive to outclass it.

The story is perfect from start to finish, and the gameplay mechanics are just outstanding. In my opinion, no other game comes close to competing with RDR2’s style even in 2024! The West-style Grand Theft Auto received awards for Best PerformanceBest NarrativeBest Audio Design, and Best Score and Music

In addition, you’re free to choose from a wide variety of weaponry. There’s no shortage of things you can do while exploring the breathtaking in-game environment of what is simply one of the best open-world games on Xbox One. You’d truly be shooting yourself in the foot by not buying this title.

Pros:

  • The graphics of Red Dead Redemption 2 are awe-inspiring
  • The game’s open world is brimming with life and adventure.
  • Every mission is exceptional and unique.
  • The soundtrack is brilliant.

Cons:

  • Wanted systems can sometimes appear unjust.

7. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

Furthering the list of the best single-player Xbox One games is none other than the genius of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Before I go on any further, let us clear it beforehand that the title in question isn’t for the faint of heart, similar to the Elden Ring or any other Soulslike venture of FromSoftware. Prepare to embark on an epic tale of Wolf—our shinobi protagonist who has to take on never-seen-before horrors to protect his master.

In his right arm rests a Katana named Kusabimaru. The armament was bestowed upon Wolf by his master Kuro, the Divine Heir. Contrary to other RPG games like Dark Souls, Bloodborne, or even Elden Ring, Sekiro doesn’t allow you to switch your primary weapon. It’s you and your Kusabimaru against the world in this single-player action adventure.

A story of betrayal is what characterizes the lore of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, not to mention the diversity of other elements making the experience altogether amazing. The level design of the Soulslike doesn’t fail to impress at any point during the campaign, pitting your one-handed Wolf against formidable foes of immeasurable strength time and time again.

As far as the Soulsborne genre is concerned, Sekiro offers a whole new level of challenge. Even after spending hours in the genre I constantly struggled to master the game.

Pros:

  • The fight in Sekiro is intense difficult and challenging.
  • The settings in Sekiro are beautifully designed and reward exploration.
  • Sekiro’s tale is captivating and well-written.
  • Sekiro has a fantastic level design.

Cons:

  • Certain bosses in Sekiro are repeated.
  • The stealth of Sekiro isn’t the best because it feels awkward and unsatisfying.

8. Resident Evil 2

Resident Evil 2 Remake
Resident Evil 2 Remake

Resident Evil 2 Remake is an engaging adventure packed with visually impressive quality-of-life elements. Capcom has clearly revamped the popular title with a zombie theme from scratch and released a new version of the game for those who are gamers of the franchise. The result is nothing short of fantastic as you experience the terrifying escapes of Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield.

If it launches some of the best Xbox One single-player zombie games, Capcom isn’t something to be snoozing about. The Japanese game maker is a specialist in the creation of zombie-themed games with its shrewd grasp of the genre of zombie-themed titles. Take a look at its Resident Evil series alone, and you’ll see what we’re talking about. There are three titles from the series in this list in the event that they’ve been designed.

The latest reiteration of the game was released in the year 2019 to one hell of a positive response. If you’ve played the original game then you’ll surely be up for a nostalgic trip as I experienced while playing RE2 Remake.

Pros:

  • Resident Evil 2 does a great job of creating an eerie and frightening atmosphere.
  • There are many endings available in Resident Evil 2.
  • The music in Resident Evil 2 enhances the mood.

Cons:

  • The speed of movement of Resident Evil 2 can feel extremely unresponsive.
  • Certain of the areas have problems with pacing.
  • Resident Evil 2’s item management can be a bit tedious at times.

9. NieR: Automata BECOME AS GODS Edition

NieR: Automata
NieR: Automata

NieR: Automata is one terrific adventure of a game, presenting players with a unique blend of action gameplay with an emotionally telling storyline. What makes this entry in the NieR franchise stand out is how well put together it truly is, not to mention the alluring soundtrack that gets us every time we’re out and about exploring the beautiful in-game world of Automata.

The latter is what allowed the IP to win the Game Awards for Best Score and Music without hesitation. It was released back in 2017 and has had spin-offs and other games coming after it. With that said, the level of Automata is one that cannot be toppled so effortlessly.

That is to say, you don’t become one of the best Xbox One single-player games without bringing something special to the table. The title makes you delve into a vast open world teeming with various terrains and a sense of desolate depression.

As far as the gameplay is concerned, you’ll be pleased to find out that NieR: Automata features a mesmerizing blend of ranged and melee combat. You’ll be going back and forth between these two on the fly, leaving no room for your enemies to flee the scene.

Pros:

  • The story makes you feel emotionally connected with the characters.
  • Nier Automata’s story is one of the best written in gaming.
  • The characters are beautifully crafted and well-written.
  • The gaming mechanisms of NieR: Automata are highly unique and entertaining.

Cons:

  • The side tasks can become tedious at times.
  • Certain goods might be quite frustrating to obtain since they require a lot of grinding.

10. Ori and the Will of the Wisps

best single player campaign games xbox one
Ori and the Will of the Wisps

In case you’re looking for a laid-back, relaxing experience where the gameplay is fun and isn’t tempting you to do better, Ori and the Will of the Wisps is the game for you. It came in 2022 and is a direct sequel to the 2015-released Ori and the Blind Forest.

The latter began its commercial growth as an Xbox exclusive but was later ported to other platforms as well. The follow-up title has followed suit. Taking you on an amazing adventure, Ori and the Will of the Wisps is loaded to the brim with art masterpieces. I thoroughly enjoy playing Indie games, even though they don’t have huge budgets they can still manage to beat many AAA games with their immersive game design, which is exactly what I felt while playing Ori and the Will of the Wisps.

It lets you experience levels that seem to be created with unrivaled genius, thereby making the overall experience exceptionally enjoyable for players across the board. The developers have just superseded the expectations set by the original title in the series, thereby deeming it one of the best platformer single-player games on Xbox One

Pros:

  • The visual style of Ori And The Will Of The Wisps.
  • It provides a wide variety of entertaining and demanding puzzles to solve.
  • The soundtrack is outstanding, heightening the immersive experience.

Cons:

  • The last boss battle in Ori And The Will Of The Wisps can be disappointingly easy.
  • Ori And The Will Of The Wisps might be unstable on some platforms.
  • No mini-map feature is included in Ori And The Will Of The Wisps.

11. Sunset Overdrive

best xbox one single player games
Sunset Overdrive

Sunset Overdrive is an iconic Xbox One exclusive launched not long after the console made headlines in the gaming world. The developer of Marvel’s Spider-Man for the PlayStation consoles is the one who worked on this free-roam, out-of-the-box tactical playground, so you’re definitely after a product here that’s curated by an industry veteran. Experience fun-filled combat, eccentric enemies, and a no-rule motto where the sky is the limit.

Transform yourself into a hyper-agile character that can jump off tall skyscrapers unscathed, do wall runs, and use the whole city as your private recreational park. In addition to that, the weaponry happens to be one of the most fun and thrilling aspects of Sunset Overdrive. Form combinations of different armaments and take biochemical mutants down in the most unconventional of ways.

Pros:

  • Sunset Overdrive offers rapid-paced fast-paced action.
  • Sunset Overdrive’s style of art is vibrant.
  • The co-op mode can support up to eight players.

Cons:

  • There’s no replay value to Sunset Overdrive.

12. Return of the Obra Dinn

xbox one best single player games
Return of the Obra Dinn

A sensational piece of work is what best defines Return of the Obra Dinn. We’re willing to bet that you haven’t come across anything like what this game has going for itself ever before. What we’re talking about is centered on exploration and logical deduction, one that keeps you on the edge of your seat and you hit those “Aha!” moments during your first playthrough.

Feel free to check out the minimally colored game and see what dark secrets you unravel as you investigate the lost at-sea ship, Obra Dinn. Surely, if you’re looking for some of the best mystery single-player Xbox One games, you’ve hit the lottery with this one.

Pros:

  • Return of the Obra Dinn features unique gameplay.
  • The pixel art style is visually appealing.
  • There are multiple visual filters you can use if the art style is not the best for your eyes.

Cons:

  • The pace of Return of the Obra Dinn starts off incredibly slow.
  • It may not appeal to players who are not fans of solving puzzles.

13. Hades

Hades
Hades

The next title in line is going to baffle you with its replayability value. Hades is a dungeon-crawler that has about 50 different Game of the Year awards to its name, offering swift, fluid gameplay with tons of skills, abilities, and weapons to unlock.

The enemies are dynamic and will adapt to your strategies if you do not keep switching things up every now and then. This adds a level of versatility to the overall combat introduced in the game.

And do you know what the best part is? Hades is free with Xbox Game Pass. In the fortunate case that you’re already subscribed to the front-running Microsoft service, delve into the masterpiece with no further ado. As part of the best Xbox single-player games Xbox Game Pass, the rogue-like at hand is not the one to sleep on, and I can guarantee you that.

Pros:

  • Hades features outstanding character designs.
  • The gameplay experience of Hades is rewarding and enjoyable.
  • The soundtrack of Hades is top-notch.
  • Has a lot of postgame features and content.
  • The dialogue in Hades is exceptionally well-written.

Cons:

  • Hades can slow down and become repetitive at times.

14. INSIDE

INSIDE
INSIDE

INSIDE isn’t your regular side-scrolling indie IP with monotonous gameplay and linear storylines. Instead, the game at hand is a literal work of art, putting the player through their paces not once but a multitude of times during the game.

Having a colossal 10/10 overall rating on Steam and positive reception in a bevy of other publishing magazines INSIDE is the best 2D puzzle platformer that you’re currently missing out on. As I mentioned earlier, some Indie Games manage to create immersive game designs which are just outstanding. Inside falls into that same category, its eerie vibes and dark storyline is enough to attract all kinds of gamers.

What appears seemingly straightforward at first takes quite a turn when you make enough progress. Regarding the plot of the title, you’ll stay webbed up in mysteries for the better part of the game, but it’ll all be worth it, provided the underlying mystery sets the whole tone for INSIDE. Definitely one of the best single-player puzzle games on Xbox One and then some.

Pros:

  • Some of the best puzzles can be found in INSIDE.
  • INSIDE tells an unsettling story about tyranny and violence.
  • It boasts a dark and moody visual design.

Cons:

  • INSIDE is a story-driven game, there is little need to revisit it once the tale has been completed.
  • The middle section of INSIDE may appear to have a slow rhythm.

15. Life is Strange

best single player games on xbox one
Life is Strange

Aside from all the gun-shooting action, open-world adventures, and hack-and-slash thrills, it’s high time that you switch up your perspective and try something uniquely different for a change. DONTNOD Entertainment has genuinely done a number with their front-running series Life is Strange by following it up with a fantastic sequel. The episodic adventure style of the title follows the tale of two brothers and their broken bond.

If you’re someone who enjoys story-rich games that require you to make decisions, then Life is Strange should be on top of your priority games. It features a moving story which can surely bring out the emotional side of you!

Pros:

  • Life is Strange features a compelling narrative with well-developed characters.
  • There are choices you can make throughout Life is Strange.

Cons:

  • Some parts of Life is Strange can seem to have incredibly slow pacing.

16. CONTROL

Control
Control

Remedy Entertainment has truly outdone its level of creativity with the release of Control, a science fiction third-person shooter that grants players a stellar gameplay experience, more or less. It genuinely makes you wonder how much thought the developers have actually put into the title when you experience little tidbits of the plot connecting together that you never thought of previously.

You unlock more player abilities as you play through the main campaign. Speaking of which, the protagonist in Control has destructive telekinetic powers that she doesn’t truly understand at first but slowly begins to harness. When the moment finally arrives that you manifest your true potential, Control makes you feel utterly powerful. Don’t miss out on experiencing what is simply one of the best single-player games on Xbox One

Pro:

  • The physics in Control is incredibly realistic.
  • Control’s art is peerless and has a very distinct aesthetic to it.
  • The bosses are creative.
  • Control’s graphics are stunning.
  • The gameplay is very fun and balanced nicely.

Cons:

  • The story is not the best, some important elements of the game are left unexplained.
  • There are some glitches.
  • Some of the NPCs are designed very badly and show little to no movement.

17. Far Cry 5

Far Cry 5
Far Cry 5

Far Cry 5 is a dream come true for first-person-shooter enthusiasts looking for a playground to wreak havoc in. Don’t expect things to be typically mundane when a name like Far Cry enters the chat. What I have here is famous for blending wildlife with true-to-life shooting gameplay.

Therefore, the perfect mix of these two vast elements lets you experience the FPS action in a full-blown manner, especially when you’re pitted against a storyline as engaging as Far Cry 5’s.

Joseph Seed is a brutal cult leader who doesn’t stop at anything to exhibit his dominance in the wild stretches of Hope County, Montana. It’s up to you to bring him down along with his siblings, the Heralds, and restore some semblance of hope and peace to the region.

Fast-paced gunplay, action-packed vehicular combat, and a huge buzzing world to explore are what you’ll get with what is one of the best Xbox One single-player FPS games

Recommendation: If you’ve already played Far Cry 5, then I’d personally suggest you play through Far Cry New Dawn (preferably with a friend). You’ll be able to explore Hope County years after the events of Far Cry 5!

Pros:

  • A lot of intriguing characters can be found in Far Cry 5.
  • Far Cry 5 features an expansive, exquisitely detailed open world.
  • There is a tonne of extra material in Far Cry 5’s “Far Cry Arcade” mode.

Cons:

  • In Far Cry 5, there are far too many pointless conversations that drag on for too long.

18. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

best single player campaign games xbox one
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is the latest Assassin’s Creed game to grace the enigmatic third-person stealth-based series. The franchise has come a long way from where it first began its ventures. The original roots of Assassin’s Creed have metamorphosed into a more advanced take on stealth games across the board, thereby adapting to the rip-roaring action stance.

Valhalla is, therefore, an action RPG that surrounds itself around Norse mythology. Behold stunning visuals, terrific visual quality, and the freedom to build your own Viking legend. Pump up the difficulty level a bit in case you consider yourself a seasoned Assassin’s Creed player, and watch how the dynamic ever so gracefully changes for the better.

Even though Assassin’s Creed has come a long way from its initial roots, it’s still fun to play their newer titles. I enjoyed the RPG element of AC Valhalla, on top of that, playing as a Viking was a surely a cherry on top!

Pros:

  • The graphics in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla are great.
  • The open world is amazing with a lot of different things you can do and explore.
  • Some of the story arcs in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla are very well-written.
  • Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has some amazing characters.

Cons:

  • Assassin’s Creed Valhalla might have some glitches present, especially in the PC version of the game.
  • The combat system is not the best and the animations feel stiff.
  • The AI is not programmed well.

19. DOOM Eternal

best single player first person shooter games xbox one
DOOM Eternal

DOOM Eternal is the most recent game to mark its foray into this iconic demon-hunting franchise. You’ve got yourself one of the most jaw-dropping pieces of adventure with this one with the iconic Doomslayer hot on your tail and the rest of the evil deities from hell.

Experience this push-forward, first-person shooting in full flight as you take on vicious creatures and discover the origins of the protagonist. The title in question is no less than one of the best single player first-person shooter games on Xbox One.

The series’ first release dates back to 1993, whereas Eternal came out in 2020. This large gap between the two has paved the way for immense improvements to come forth. In the latest DOOM title, therefore, you’ll be able to enjoy the best upgrades the Doomslayer has ever received, making the whole gameplay utterly enthralling.

Pros:

  • DOOM Eternal has a lot of different enemies.
  • The visuals are incredibly immersive.
  • DOOM Eternal has various locations you can travel to and explore.
  • The music is great and fits the overall theme very well.

Cons:

  • The story can sometimes be very confusing.
  • DOOM Eternal’s ammo limit is very small.

20. Halo Infinite

best single player campaign games xbox one
Halo Infinite

If you’re a fan of all things Xbox, then it’s quite likely that you’ve heard about Halo at least once. What I have here under the guillotine is the freshest game to launch in the Halo series—Halo Infinite. Not only is this first-person shooter part of Game Pass, but it’s also quite the cluster of fun by 343 Industries. Halo happens to be the front-running mascot of Microsoft’s main console, and playing Infinite for the first time, you’ll see why.

Create your very own Spartan with a customization system that’s willing to go as deep as you’d like it to go. You’ll even be able to unlock different aesthetic items for your suit as you play through the campaign of the game, along with the various multiplayer modes featured in Infinite. The storyline, the music, and the graphic quality all come together in a perfect blend to make Halo Infinite one of the best single-player games on Xbox One.

21. Hollow Knight

Hollow Knight

To talk about a diverse Metroidvania indie platformer, Hollow Knight is what comes forward with its unique brilliance. This fun-filled title isn’t your typical sidescroller. Instead, it borrows the difficulty level from the Soulsborne games, which are Hidetaka Miyazaki’s collection of front-running IPs. You are in control of a non-descript knight wielding a sword called Nail.

You use your armament to not only cut down foes of all kinds but also to interact with the environment in many ways. Everything from the very lore of Hollow Knight down to your run-ins with the bosses of the game is curated with perfection. That is to say, I don’t fail to tick off all the checkboxes when it genuinely comes down to it. Gameplay, plot, character development, graphics, music—this one’s got it all.

Pros:

  • Features a gloomy and spooky world.
  • The Hollow Knight map is flawlessly made.
  • Though initially straightforward, the movement becomes increasingly complex by the game’s end.
  • The music choice is excellent and perfectly complements the setting.

Cons:

  • Because of its focus on bugs and insects, Hollow Knight might not be suitable for some.

22. Hitman 3

Hitman 3
Hitman 3

It’s no surprise now that most of the best titles on Xbox One are already a part of Microsoft’s Game Pass subscription, including Hitman 3. Concluding the mainline story of the World Of Assassination trio of Hitman games, Agent 47 makes his return to the big screen to pull off the jobs of a lifetime. Circle the whole globe, take on alluring missions, and experience the thrill of the hunt as you take down high-rolling personalities.

Take in your surroundings and become a master of your craft on the fly. Creative options are at an all-time high with Hitman 3, allowing you to take your foes down in a number of different ways and make every encounter special and more high-yield than before. All the nifty little things come together and bring forth an exceptionally desirable third-person shooting experience. You have to try out all that Hitman 3 has to offer on Xbox One.

Pros:

  • Hitman 3 added support for VR recently.
  • The graphics are improved and look stunning.
  • There are new levels for you to complete and they have a good amount of variety.
  • Hitman 3 has an amazingly well-written story.

Cons:

  • Hitman 3 does not have a lot of replay value.
  • There is no multiplayer in Hitman 3.
  • Hitman 3’s campaign is short.

23. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

Resident Evil 7, that is to say, is a first-person shooter with suspenseful gameplay. It’s a personal favorite over at eXputer as well. There are some jumpscares in there that frighten the living heck out of the player, especially when you’re repeatedly coming in contact with Jack Baker.

A whole rollercoaster of emotions awaits you in this horror thriller of a title as you uncover dark, deep mysteries surrounding the Baker family. The name of the protagonist is Ethan Winters—an ordinary civilian who sets out to find his wife after he receives an exceptionally unsettling video message from her.

The fact of the matter is that the message is received three years after Mia—Ethan’s wife—goes absent for the first time. When the protagonist finally stumbles upon the homestead where Mia is allegedly trapped, a whole chain of unfortunate and gruesome events starts unfolding. There’s never a dull moment in Resident Evil 7, and I can assure you that!

Pros:

  • The scary and immersive atmosphere of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard lures players into the plot.
  • The graphics and visual effects are excellent.
  • Voice acting is fantastic and adds to the suspense.
  • DLC expansions increase the story’s richness and depth.

Cons:

  • There are many jump-scares that may not be to everyone’s taste.
  • Some of the boss fights can be extremely frustrating.

24. Mass Effect Legendary Edition

Mass Effect Legendary Edition
Mass Effect Legendary Edition

The second-last entry on this list belongs to Mass Effect Legendary Edition, allowing you to relive the complete cinematic saga of the iconic third-person shooter franchise. This particular game variant lets you enjoy the nerve-wracking adventures of Commander Shepard—the chief protagonist of the Mass Effect series—in stunning 4K visuals. There’s just no putting on a lighter note how beautiful this title looks in its revisited form.

Strap yourself for the adventure of a lifetime as you take command of the Normandy and embark on single-player campaigns like never before. There are more than 40 different DLCs for the entirety of the trilogy that is included in the Legendary Edition. That is to say, the latter encompasses all three of the front-running Mass Effect games: Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3.

If you’re after some of the best single-player sci-fi shooter games on Xbox One consolidated with a touch of thrill and rip-roaring action, you may as well shoot for Mass Effect without breaking a sweat. It’s rated quite high and is known for its inclusion of memorable characters, gripping storyline, and terrific combat gameplay. This is not the IP you’d want to miss out on while owning any of the Xbox consoles.

Pros:

  • The visuals in Mass Effect Legendary Edition are stunning.
  • The story in Mass Effect Legendary Edition is one of the greatest space tales.
  • The characters in the game are exceptional.

Cons:

  • The enemy AI in the game is very unintelligent.
  • The facial animations are inferior to the body animations.
  • Mass Effect Legendary Edition prioritizes the narrative heavily, with gameplay taking a backseat.

25. Gears 5

Gears 5

Topping the guide off is perhaps, one of the most eccentric shooters ever to grace the platform of Xbox One. Gears 5 is the last title to advance the Gears of War franchise, which happens to be utterly popular on Microsoft’s famous line-up of gaming consoles.

The well-acclaimed saga that this series has created is currently finalized by the epilogue of Gears 5. However, the events of the latter do indicate that a sequel might be in the works. Anyhow, Gears 5 marks itself as the most advanced Gears of War title to date. It arrives loaded to the brim with features that allow the player full control over their gameplay experience.

The game in question is no less than a rollercoaster of emotions. You’ll find the protagonist delving deep into her inner self and channeling hidden mysteries to uncover the truth behind the destruction and war. Kait Diaz will be front and center in this iteration of the Gears series. As for the rest of the major plot points, we’d like to keep things spoiler-free here, so do try out what is otherwise the best Xbox One shooter game yourself.

Pros:

  • Gears 5 includes multiple game modes.
  • The characters are well-written and have a decent amount of depth.
  • The AI in Gears 5 is improved and makes battles a lot more fun.

Cons:

  • The camera is not the best and can take away from the immersion.
  • The microtransactions in Gears 5 might be a huge turn-off for some players.
  • Some of the open-world missions can drag on unnecessarily.

Takeaway

Despite the release of PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One is still a relevant platform to pay heed to. It’s still holding up its massive gaming library which includes titles such as Elden Ring and Red Dead Redemption II. These two are some of the best single-player campaign games on Xbox One, and you have to try them out if you’re a solo-play enthusiast.

My personal favorite on the list has to be The Witcher 3. For me, no other game comes close to it. It offers everything a player needs in a single game. Rich storyline, immersive combat, beautifully crafted regions, and well-built characters!
