God of War Ragnarok: Berserker Armor [Unlock]

The Berserker Armor Set is one of the stronger armor sets in the game. The armor in its base stats is strong armor. That is mainly because you’ll get to unlock it quite later on in the game. Yes, there are tons of other armor pieces in the game, but to get them to their level, you’ll have to spend tons of resources.

What Is Berserker Armor Set

Berserker Armor is designed to cause tons of damage to your opponents. That is thanks to its passive skills in the game. Each of these armor pieces has skills that make it the perfect armor set for a Berserker. It ensures that even if you’re losing, the armor’s passive will ensure that you come out on the top in a fight.

If you’re wondering about the Berserker Armor on how to get it in GOW Ragnarok, the method is pretty straightforward. To unlock the armor set, you’ll have to make progress in a specific side quest favor. In that quest, you’ll have to travel to three specific Berserker Gravestones to defeat a set of Berserkers. More on that in a while.

Berserker Waist Guard

The first and foremost Berserker Armor piece that you’ll unlock will be the Berserker Waist Guard. The armor piece is at level 5 when you first get to unlock it. For a level 5 Armor Piece, it will have strong stats.

At base stats, it will have 41 Defense, 11 Runic, 11 Vitality, 11 Cooldown, and 11 Luck. From the beginning, the armor will have solid specs. You can equip it right away and have fun while destroying your opponents.

The Berserker Waist Guard’s skill is the ‘Soulless Rebuke’. Its description states: ‘Tanking damage, Blocking, Parry all have a Moderate Luck chance to cause a Soul Explosion, dealing damage and restoring some Cooldown of the Relic’.

The fight won’t always be in your favor. At times, you’ll get hit by your opponents. So even if you’re at the end of the opponent’s blade, the Armor skill will ensure that you still have a good chance to cause a Soul Explosion. It will hit back your opponent and give you a window to get out of there and start hitting the opponent.

Berserker Gauntlets

Compared to all other armor pieces, the Gauntlets will be unlocked at a later part of the game. At that time, it will be in Level 6. It will be of a lower Level according to the time you’ll unlock it. The base stats will be 50 Strength, 14 Runic, 14 Vitality, 14 Cooldown, and 14 Luck. But if you upgrade it, it will be up to the standard of a powerful armor piece.

The Skill of Berserker Gauntlets is Soulless Assault. Its description states: ‘ Low LUCK chance for successful hits to cause a Soul Explosion, dealing damage and restoring some Cooldown of the Relic’.

With the Waist Guard, if you manage to get a hit on the opponent, it will give you a low chance to deal soul explosion damage. So the more you hit an opponent, the more chances you’ll have to deal soul explosions to opponents.

Berserker Cuirass

As for the Berserker Cuirass, you’ll get to unlock it relatively late in the game. Finding it later on in the game gives you the benefit that it will be at a relatively higher level than other Armor Pieces. But it puts you at a disadvantage that your Berserker Armor set won’t be complete until quite later in God of War Ragnarok. Even then, the pros of the armor outpace the cons of it.

It is a powerful piece of Armor. The Cuirass is quite powerful as it is the main armor piece. When you unlock it, its base stats are amazing. It has 52 Strength, 21 Defense, 31 Runic, 31 Vitality, 31 Cooldown, and 31 Luck. It not only has high Strength stats but also defense stats too. So you can rely on your armor set to keep you up and running.

Berserker Cuirass’s skill is named Soulless Warrior. Its description is: ‘Using a Relic massively increases the damage of Kratos’ Melee Attacks, but also the damage received, for a duration’.

Now the Cuirass’ skill is quite powerful. But you’ll have to time it perfectly, or else it will backfire on you. What we mean is when you use a Relic, it will increase your damage significantly. If used correctly, the enemies will die in mere seconds. But if you make a mistake and end up getting it, it will take out a huge chunk of health from the health bar.

Unlocking Berserker Armor

The Berserker Armor isn’t available until you get to Chapter 9: Word of Fate of the game. At that time, you’d need to start a quest called Fit for a King. The Quest can be started once you acquire The Inert Hilt of Skofnung.

Chapter 9: The Word of Fate starts when Kartos travels to Midgard. You can progress through the story as usual until you get to the fight with the Fierce Ogre. The Ogre has slow but strong attacks that can deal tremendous damage, so you’ll have to fight him carefully. Once you’ve defeated him, keep on progressing through the story, but now be cautious.

As you progress through the story, you’ll come into a clearing with a pile of rubble in the middle of it. Now, you’ll have to go to that pile and interact with it. When you do so, you’ll receive the Inert Hilt of Skofnung. That will start a Side Quest Favor – Fit for a King.

The Quest itself is quite long. In it, you’ll have to defeat some Berserkers located at different Gravestones. Completing the quest in God of War Ragnarok is another day’s topic. For now, we’ll only focus on our topic of How to get Berserker Armor in GOW Ragnarok.

For that, we need to defeat Berserkers found at three specific Berserker Gravestones. They are Fraekni the Zealous, Svipdagr the Cold, and two Sisters of Illska, and Skjothendi the Unerring. These berserkers are scattered at different locations.

Berserker Waist Guard

When you defeat Fraekni the Zealous, she drops the Berserker Waist Guard. Fraekni the Zealous’ is located in Midgard. Her Gravestone is found near Tyr’s Temple. When you reach the temple, head north from there. The gravestone is found in the Lake of Nine.

When you get to the Lake of Nine, head further north, from there. If you look at the map, you’ll find the Berserker Gravestone there. For reference, we’re attaching a picture of the location of the Berserker Gravestone down below.

When you reach there, interact with the Gravestone to put the Inert Hilt of Skofnung in it. That will summon Fraekni the Zealous at the spot. You’ll have to defeat her to get the Berserker Waist Guard.

Strategy

If you go by a typical Berserker Gravestones hunt, Fraekni the Zealous will be the first boss that you fight against. For that reason, she might seem quite hard to you, but as you progress through the story, you’ll come to realize that Fraekni is one of the easiest Berserkers in the game.

She has a few attacks that can easily be learned if you focus on them. That’s why, for the first part of the fight, don’t attack her blindly. Prepare yourself for dodging her range attacks as all her attacks deal high damage if you don’t dodge them. Even if you don’t feel like blocking her melee attacks, a simple dodge will be more than enough for almost all of them.

Make sure to press the R3 button in the fight with her. It will lock Fraekni, meaning if she manages to dash past you, you’ll automatically turn towards her. But remember, the whole fight is of patience. Read her moves, and time your attacks properly. Take all the time you need because if she manages to hit you, your HP bar will get depleted quickly.

Overall, the fight should be easy, and after a bit of patience and proper timing, Fraekni will be down on her knees. At that time, you need to go to her and perform a Stun Finisher on her.

Rewards

When Fraekni the Zealous is defeated, she will drop a number of items. First and foremost, the most important item is Berserker Waist Guard. Take it as soon as she drops it. Apart from that. Here are all of the items she drops when you kill her.

• 2x Tempered Remnants
• 25x Bonded Leather
• 25x Shattered Runes

Pick up all of these items and you’re good to go.

Berserker Cuirass

Up next, for the Berserker Cuirass, we’ll have to travel to the Alfheim region of the game. There, you’ll have to fight a total of 3 Berserkers. The fight is a bit unique, which we’ll explain in a bit.

To get there, you’ll have to travel to Alfheim, as we’ve mentioned before. In Alfheim, you’ll have to go to The Barrens region. These Berserkers will be found in the easternmost corner of the map. Its exact location is on the map below.

When you get there, as usual, you’ll find a Berserker Gravestone. Go to it and insert the Inert Hilt of Skofnung. It will summon a total of three Berserkers, yes, three, at once. They are Svipdagr the Cold and the two Sisters of Illska.

Once the fight starts, you’ll notice that Svipdagr has his own health bar. And the Two Sisters of Illska have their own health bars. Now it might seem hard, but there is good news. The Sisters of Illska share their health bar. If you kill one of them, it will end up killing both of them.

Strategy

Now, it might seem like an unfair 3v1 fight, but it is Kratos we’re talking about, the God of War. He can easily take care of all of them. But of course, you shouldn’t just dive into battle and hope that you’ll kill all of them in mere seconds.

You’ll have to work with a strategy in mind in Combat. First off, you’ll have to begin with the Sisters of Illska. Focus on them and try to kill them as fast as possible. Now, remember, they both have elemental damage. They’ll be dealing Fire and ice damage at you. But that’s not all, the Sisters of Illska have ranged damage. If you focus on Svipdagr, the Sisters will always hit you even if you’re far away.

As the Sisters share the same health, you can take on one of them and finish them quickly. When you’re done with them, take care of Svipdagr. He has powerful attacks so even if he is alone, you should be careful of all the damage he can inflict on you. 

Remember, his name is Svipdagr the Cold. It means that he will perform cold elemental attacks. Not only that, the dual Axes he wields deal tons of damage to you. He has a variety of powerful attacks. It will be best to keep a distance between yourself and him and deal with ranged attacks. In no time, you’ll have Svipdagr on his knees and you’ll only have to perform the finisher on him.

Rewards

When Svipdagr is defeated, he will drop the Berserker Cuirass. Now that isn’t the only item he drops. As it is a rather later mini-boss fight, you should expect some good loot from the fight. And that’s what we get from it. Here are all of the rewards that we got.

• Asgard’s Security
• 180x Bonded Leather
• Frozen Flame
• 75x Shattered Runes
• 5x Tempered Remnants

Berserker Gauntlets

Now for the Berserker Gauntlets, you’ll have to travel to the region of Niflheim. When you get to Niflheim, you’ll have to travel to the Mist Fields area. You’ll already be familiar with the Mystic Gateway. From there, you need to head west. Shortly after traveling to the west, you’ll come in an opening. There, you’ll find the Gravestone that will summon a Berserker, Skjothendi the Unerring.

Unlike the Gravestone before, it will only summon one Berserker. But don’t let it misguide you or believe that you’ll be able to take care of her easily. She is a powerful foe to fight against. So you should fight with caution against her.

Strategy

Skjothendi the Unerring is probably one of the strongest berserkers. That is mainly because of the powerful attacks that she performs. She has the Bifrost attacks that deal quite high damage to you. Not only that, but she can also teleport around the arena, making it harder to pin her down at times.

For the Bifrost attacks, you’ll have to use the Celestial Panacea Amulet enchantment. It will add a 25% resistance to all status effects. Apart from that, using the Remedy of the Bifrost will be a great benefit to her. Once you have both of these, you will have an advantage over the Berserker Skjothendi the Unerring in God Of War Ragnarok. Apart from that, if you are using the Draupnir Spear, then using the Elemental Siphon II ability will give you temporary resistance to Bifrost from her attacks.

Once the fight gets started, you have to be wary of all of her attacks. They are a variety of attacks that mainly use Bifrost. The attacks will have her teleport toward you and attack with different variations of Bifrost attacks. Now you’ll be able to block some of her attacks, but still, the Bifrost effect will come up on you. So it is better that you should always dodge the attacks.

That’s not the end of her attacks on you. If you stay close to her, the Bifrost aura around her will inflict a status on you. So, if you note that she is preparing her deadly AoE moves, use your range attacks to stop the channeling. If she is successful with these, the fight will end quickly.

You’ll have to be patient and ensure that you deal damage at every possibility. Within no time, you’ll find Skjothendi at last of her health and kneeling, finish her.

Rewards

The rewards for defeating the berserker Skjothendi aren’t as great as you’d expect. But still, we’ll get the armor piece we’re after, the Berserker Gauntlets. If you were fighting with the Berserkers of God of War Ragnarok in our pattern, it will put an end to your hunt of Berserkers as you will have your Berserker Armor complete now. Anyways, here are all of the rewards that you’ll get.

Berserker Armor Upgrades

So that was all there is on how to unlock Berserker Armor in the game GOW Ragnarok. The Armor set is unlocked at different stages in the game. The Waist Guard is unlocked relatively in mid-game, whereas Gauntlets are unlocked in the late game.

To ensure the armor is up to the standard of that part of the game, all pieces of the Armor Set are unlocked at different levels. The Waist Guard is unlocked at Level 5, the Gauntlets at Level 6, and the Cuirass is unlocked at Level 7. It makes upgrading the armor set easier as you won’t have to spend that many resources to upgrade it to Level 9, the Maximum Level.

All in all, the Berserker Armor Set in God of War Ragnarok already is quite powerful. But, you should definitely upgrade the armor set to ensure that it is up to the standard and that you can rely on it in a fight.

Berserker Waist Guard And Gauntlets Upgrades

The Berserker Waist Gaurd and Gauntlets both follow the same upgrade pattern. But, as the unlocking time of the Waist Gaurd and the Gauntlets are expected to be different, you’ll unlock them both at separate levels. The Waist Guard upon unlocking is on level 5, whereas the Gauntlets will be on level 6.

Both of these armor pieces have some good stats in the game. These stats make it one of the strongest Armor sets in the game. At level 5, the base of the Waist Gaurd, we get to see 41 Defense, 11 Runic, 11 Vitality, 11 Cooldown, and 11 Luck. Whereas the Berserker Gauntlets will have 50 Strength, 14 Runic, 14 Vitality, 14 Cooldown, and 14 Luck.

As you upgrade the Waist Guard and Gauntlets, they get better at defense and strength, while simultaneously increasing the Runic, Vitality, Cooldown, and Luck. That way, you have balanced, yet strong armor pieces.

Upgrades With Required Materials

Here are all of the upgrades with the required resources.

While upgrading the Waist Guard from Level 5 to Level 6, you’d need 10,000x Hacksilver and 1x Asgardian Ingot. Gauntlets will already be at level 6 so you won’t have to upgrade them. After the upgrade, the Waist Gaurd will have the following stats.

• Defense: 50
• Runic: 14
• Vitality: 14
• Cooldown: 14
• Luck: 14

As for Level 7, When you’re upgrading Waist Gaurd and Gauntlets of the Berserker Armor, it takes 13,500 Hacksilver and 2x Asgardian Ingot to upgrade each of them. At that time, these items will have these stats.

First of all, to upgrade the Level 7 Cuirass to Level 8, you’ll need 25,000 Hacksilver, 10x Tempered Remnant, and 5x Asgardian Ingot. With these, it will go to level 8 with the following stats.

Then, as you further upgrade it to level 9, you’ll need these items: 35,000 Hacksilver, 40x Purified Crystalline, and 2x Smouldering Ember. With that, you’ll get the following stats on the Berserker Cuirass.
