How To Get Shattered Runes

Shattered Runes are one of the resources in the game that you end up collecting by accident. Most of the time, these can be collected as a result of defeating an enemy or opening up a random chest. You will also be able to find them while exploring the Midgard region of the game.

Where you will be able to destroy a lot of barrels near Lake Of Nine to get them, not many players tend to farm for Shattered rooms on purpose. But we definitely recommend collecting them when you can, as, by the end of the game, you will have enough Shattered Runes to get plenty of hacksilver to upgrade your equipment and fight the end-game bosses more efficiently.

There is no set location in the 9 realms where you can find the resource. However, there are several ways of collecting them, and we have listed them all below.

By Defeating The Enemies

The most common way of getting Shattered Runes is simply by defeating the enemies you come across in the game. The best part about this method of collecting Shattered Runes is that you won’t have to go out of your way to get these resources.

You simply have to explore the nine realms and defeat any enemies you meet while completing the main campaign. These enemies will drop enough Shattered Runes for you to be able to get your hands on plenty of hacksilver.

Furthermore, if you have been playing God of War Ragnarok long enough, you will notice that almost every enemy that you find and defeat will drop more or less the same loot after you defeat them in the game.

The loot you get from them mostly features different in-game resources usable for different purposes. Some of these enemies will also drop Shattered Runes. You can collect and farm the Shattered Runes from these enemies and use them to upgrade your equipment.

Opening The Coffins And Hidden Chests

Resources like the Shattered Runes are commonly found in areas where one will not try to look. There are plenty of hidden regions, and the God of War Ragnarok is hiding in plain sight.

With just a little more exploration, you will be able to find these hidden spots throughout the game. The best part about these hidden regions is that they contain a lot of valuable resources that can help you a lot in the game. You will also be able to collect Shattered Runes from these regions, and there are quite a lot of them for you to find.

Therefore, we recommend that you try not to miss any spot where you think that there might be some resources lying about. The more you explore, the more the game will reward you. In many regions of the game, you will come across some red-colored glowing chests and hidden chests full of random loot.

Most of these are filled with Shattered Runes, as it is a common resource to get. But that is not all; if you are lucky enough, you will get some rare resources and items too. So farming for Shattered Runes, even if they just give you hacksilver can be quite beneficial if you manage to get your hands on a hidden chest that contains a rare item for you to use.

Corpses

In God of War Ragnarok, you will come across many corpses lying about in different regions of the game. However, some of these corpses can be looted to obtain random items.

When you come across such a corpse lying in a certain spot, make sure to loot it. By doing so, you will be able to obtain Shattered Runes. But that is not all, and he will also be able to get other random loot as well from these corpses.

Barrels

As we mentioned before, whenever you are exploring in Midgard you will spot several barrels in the game. However, lake nine is where most of the resources of Shattered Runes can be found. But this is not the only spot where you will see these barrels.

Fortunately for you, these are the most call one of those to find in the game. By breaking the barriers, you will get a lot of random loot. Most of the time, just the barrels will contain Shattered rules. So whenever you spot a barrel end the game, don’t hesitate to break it, as you might be able to get your hands on a bulk of Shattered Runes.

Breaking Random Objects

While exploring the nine realms, you will come across several objects lying about. Some of these objects are actually breakable and can provide you with random loot. While most of the items you gain from destroying these objects are not that rare or legendary, they can still be beneficial in one way or another.

One such item that you will get from breaking these objects is Shattered Runes. If you are lucky enough, you will end up finding some Hacksilver as well. But the amount they drop Is fairly low. These random objects include floating barrels, vases, and hanging pots. Sometimes you will find some partially buried vessels, too and most of them have hacksilver in them.

In order to break them, you have to jump on them or roll them, and they will drop random loot. Most of them will contain Shattered Runes. So whenever you are traveling and exploring the area, whether you are on a sled, riding about, or just walking on foot, make sure to look out for these objects.

Defeating The Bosses

By defeating major bosses in the game, you will be able to obtain a lot of rewards. Some of these rewards hold rare and legendary items as well, like armor sets and weapons. However, alongside these major rewards, you will also get a chance to obtain some hacksilver or Shattered Runes.

If you manage to just go along with the main campaign and defeat any boss, you come across, you will have enough Shattered Runes by the mid-game or late game to exchange them for hacksilver and use them as an emergency supply to upgrade your equipment.

Therefore, make sure to slay every boss you come across and farm them for Shattered runes in case you need them to exchange for hacksilver further on in the game.

Treasure Maps

Another great way of obtaining Shattered Runes is to look for treasure maps in God of War Ragnarok. Fortunately for you, there are a lot of treasure maps lying about that will help you navigate and find some buried, hidden loot in the game. Therefore, it is important to use any treasure map you come across to find buried chests and look.

Treasure Maps [Image Captured By eXputer]
In God of War Ragnarok, there are 10 treasure maps to find. Therefore, you will be able to obtain 10 hidden treasures in the ground. These maps will come as lore scrolls in the game, and you will only be able to find these buried treasures if you have a map in hand. They will emit a golden glow in the ground, and you will be able to spot them easily. in order to obtain the hidden treasure, you can use your axe.

You can get some of the treasure maps in Forgotten Tower, Under The Rainbow, Vikings Gift, Washed Ashore, Fruits Of Industry, Mining Glory, etc.

Also, keep in mind that you need these treasure maps for 100% completion of God of War Ragnarok. You will be able to pick them up like a collectible and in order to view a hint when looking for them, go to your goals tab and open treasure maps.

Doing so will show you a picture there; you can see where the treasure is buried in God of War Ragnarok. Keep in mind that you will only be able to obtain these buried treasures after you have obtained their maps.

Uses Of Shattered Runes

The only use of Shatter Runes we have found so far is for it to be converted into Hacksilver. In order to convert it into Hacksilver, you need to go to the Dwarf Smiths shop. You can go to any Dwarf Smiths shop for this purpose.

Now you need to head to the Sell Section of the shop and click on resources. You will see that there is an option to exchange 50 Shattered rules to get 5000 Hacksilver in the game.

If you have played God of War Ragnarok enough, you will know that 5000 Hacksilver is a decent amount and will help you upgrade the majority of your equipment, including armor and weapons.

Considering how Hacksilver can help you upgrade and craft most of your equipment, you should try to get as many as possible. However, it will require a lot of progress in the game before you actually gain enough Shattered Runes to turn them for Hacksilver.

But the best part about the resource is definitely the fact that you won’t have to go out of your way to collect them, as most of the collecting methods of Shattered Runes are Part of the main campaign.

What Are Shattered Runes

Before we see the uses and locations of Shattered runes, it is important to understand what they actually do in the game. According to the in-game description, one might turn to think that these shards serve a bigger purpose. They are said to be filled with runic energy that is capable of moving lands.

However, that is simply not true, as the only actual purpose they serve is to convert into Hacksilver for you to buy equipment with. And if you are worried about finding them in case you are running low on Hacksilver resources, then you are in luck as they are scattered throughout the Nordic realms, and you won’t really need to make much effort in order to find them.

They are obtainable quite easily and can be found in different treasure chests and battles. You might even find some Shattered runes on corpses lying about during your adventures in God of War Ragnarok. Shattered Runes are generic loot that can be obtained quite easily.

Therefore, you won’t have to go out of your way to collect them, and they are not a part of any quest as well. You will find Shattered Runes listed among other craftable items that you can use in the game to upgrade your gear.

Why Shattered Runes Are Important

However, they don’t directly serve the purpose of upgrading your shield, weapon attachments, or different types of armor. But if you manage to collect quite a lot of them, you will be able to sell them in bulk in exchange for some hacksilver.

The hacksilver you get in return can be used to upgrade your equipment and get several weapons or armor sets in God of War Ragnarok.

Even if you can’t use Shattered Runes to upgrade anything like other resources, including Bonded Leather or Forged Iron, if you get the chance to collect, then we recommend you do so because they can help you collect a lot of Hacksilver in the game, which can be beneficial for you later on. Below see all the methods to find Shattered Runes and how to sell them for hacksilver.
