Rise Of The Ronin Encroaching Shadows Mission

Encroaching Shadows is one of the many bond missions in Rise of the Ronin. Bond missions are basically tied to the specific characters that you end up creating bonds with. Some characters that you create bonds with can also be romanced. Completing these bond missions will greatly increase the bond level with characters.

Starting Encroaching Shadows 

Once you build a bond with Taka Murayama, the Encroaching Shadows bond mission becomes available early on in the main story. 

• Starting Location: After selecting the mission, head to the Miyozaki Pleasure District and speak with Taka to learn about the details of the mission.
• Mission Briefing: Taka alerts you that she feels like she’s being followed and spied upon and wants the player to confirm her suspicions.

Fighting The Kurosu Clan Remnants

Taka tasks you to investigate a certain location which automatically gets marked on the map. Make your way to the location, and you will come across Kurosu Clan Remnants. I didn’t have a hard time beating these enemies since they didn’t have a lot of health, but three of them will jump you at once, so go prepared. After beating these enemies, Kichi Saito.

• Kichi’s Request: Kichi tells us that Taka has been kidnapped and that she must be rescued. Accepting her request will mark the location on the map where you’ll need to go to save Taka.

Fighting The Blade Twins

The location that you must travel to in order to save Taka is the Benten Shrine. Here, you will have to beat a duo boss fight, which consists of Ushio and Sayori, who are actually Blade Twins. They kidnapped Taka so that they could actually get to you, the main character. 

• Strategy: This fight is tough since you’ll have to take on two bosses at once. I used the Rifle and Bow to deal damage from range and also tried to keep my distance, which allowed me to aggro one boss at a time.
• Saving Taka: After beating the duo, you will get rewarded with the shrine key, which you can use to free Taka.

You will need to bring Taka back to the Miyozaki Pleasure District on your horse and tell Kichi about the situation once you arrive at the Pleasure House. At this point, Taka Murayama will introduce you to Naosuke Li and you can intimidate him with certain dialogue options to increase your bond with Taka. After your conversation with Naosuke Li, the Encroaching Shadows bond mission will end.
