Koei Tecmo Wants Rise Of The Ronin To Sell At Least 5 Million Copies

High expectations from not just the publisher but fans as well.

Story Highlights

  • Rise of the Ronin is an upcoming action RPG by iconic developer, Team Ninja, due for release soon.
  • The publisher of the game has expressed his concern regarding the game’s sales in recent times.
  • Koei Tecmo expects Rise of the Ronin to sell over 5 million copies over the course of its release.

Rise of the Ronin is one of the biggest games PlayStation fans are looking forward to this year, right alongside another shining star, Dragon’s Dogma 2, where both games are due for release on the same day. As the Team Ninja action RPG comes out soon, the publisher Koei Tecmo has expressed its concerns regarding the game’s sales, expecting at least 5 million to be rolled over following its release.

You can find this information on Koei Tecmo’s official website, where the industry giant has laid out a report that details its current and future aspirations. That part about “(new IP)” is clearly referring to Rise of the Ronin here, considering how it’s the latest venture of the Japanese publisher,

How Well Has Koei Tecmo’s Other Games Have Sold?

With Koei Tecmo expecting Rise of the Ronin to sell about 5 million units in lifetime sales, one can wonder whether these are achievable numbers. To figure that, we can gauge the commercial performance of some of Koei’s other noteworthy IPs.

For starters, Koei’s iconic Ninja Gaiden franchise, developed by Team Ninja, has sold close to 7 million units to date. On the other hand, the Nioh franchise comprising 2 installments has made sales more than those figures, signaling success for the publisher.

Considering that Rise of the Ronin is a PlayStation 5 exclusive, which very well might head to PC as well sometime down the road, 5 million sales don’t sound all that difficult. Who knows? If the game turns out better than expected, this target could be achieved sooner than ever.
