Assassin’s Creed Red Could Arrive In 2024; Rumored To Be The Year’s “Biggest Blockbuster”

Will the upcoming RPG from Ubisoft Quebec meet the studio's expectations.

Story Highlights

  • A new LinkedIn post from Ubisoft’s brand partnership department has revealed that Assassin’s Creed Red will release in 2024.
  • The post also calls the upcoming RPG set in feudal Japan the “biggest blockbuster” of 2024.

According to an announcement from the Business Development and Brand Partnership team at Ubisoft, Assassin’s Creed Codename Red will release in 2024. While looking for new partners to sponsor the upcoming role-playing title, the marketing section of Ubisoft let this potential release date slip. In addition, the team also labeled the upcoming game developed by Ubisoft Quebec as 2024’s “biggest blockbuster,” further exciting fans.

A LinkedIn post by Arisa Langunzad, who’s involved in marketing at Ubisoft reveals that Assassin’s Creed Red will drop in 2024 and that Ubisoft is looking to partner with sponsors to market the game next year. Hence, one of Ubisoft’s most anticipated titles is going to be playable much sooner than expected.

Furthermore, the post dropped the fact that over 200 million users have played games from the Assassin’s Creed franchise, which is a mind-boggling number. Ubisoft also calls Assassin’s Creed Red the “biggest blockbuster” of 2024 in the LinkedIn ad. Obviously, this is to market the game to sponsors, but it’s still a big statement to make with games like Metal Gear Solid Delta, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and Avowed confirmed to release next year.

Hence, only time will tell if the upcoming RPG is able to meet these expectations or not. Announced at the 2022 Ubisoft Forward Showcase with a 30-second trailer, Assassin’s Creed Red is the next major title in the long-running Ubisoft series. With its feudal Japan setting, the game is going to fulfill one of the most popular wishes of the franchise’s fans.

Ubisoft Quebec, the studio behind Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, is going to be the lead developer for Assassin’s Creed Red and will be responsible for making what programmer Marc-Alexis Cote described as “the future of our open-world RPG games on Assassin’s Creed.” Besides the much-wanted setting, the RPG is also going to bring back the narrative split between past and present.

In addition, leaks have also revealed that players will have the option to choose between a samurai and a shinobi in the upcoming game. Considering how Cote previously talked about players getting to experience a “powerful Shinobi fantasy” in Assassin’s Creed Red, the latter could be the better choice. Moreover, as per Insider Gaming, stealth is going to be a big part of the upcoming title besides open-world map exploration.

Therefore, Assassin’s Creed Red is going to keep some aspects of the most recent titles, specifically the RPG elements. Ubisoft hasn’t revealed much else about the game as of now, with many of the big details being kept under wraps. But, this leak of its potential release date will be enough to keep fans satisfied for the foreseeable future.

As of now, the only game from the series with a confirmed release date is Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which will come out on October 12, 2023. Unlike Codename Red, Mirage is going to be a shorter and more story-focused entry into the franchise, reminiscent of the earlier titles. Set in Baghdad, the upcoming adventure game will bring the series back to its roots and be more stealth-oriented, as per the developers.

Hence, the fans of the Ubisoft franchise will be kept occupied by Mirage before the potential anticipated release of Assassin’s Creed Red in 2024.
