Avatar: Frontiers Of Pandora’s Graphics Labeled The Best In 2023

In a new video, well-reputed video game analystic Digital Foundry ranked the best game graphics in 2023, and according to them, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora was the winner. The tech publication praised the game’s visuals, saying the real-time lighting gives the action-adventure title an authentic look and separates it from procedurally generated worlds like No Man’s Sky.

Digital Foundry also pointed out the brilliant ray-tracing in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, with the developers even tracing audio in addition to shadows and reflections. According to Oliver Mackenzie, the detail and fidelity in the open world’s foliage were levels ahead of games like Horizon: Forbidden West and were one of the reasons the Ubisoft title took this crown.

The YouTube video also explains why Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is above Alan Wake 2 with the difference in scale between the two games being the main reason. Mackenzie further expanded on this, saying that it takes a lot more effort and system-driven power to make an AAA open-world like Avatar’s look good.

Of course, Alan Wake 2 is also a beautiful game, but according to Digital Foundry, its linear limited state makes the rendering much easier. Hence, even though both are very different, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora just takes the cake because of how massive and well-designed its game world is.

Cyberpunk 2077 comes in at number 3 on this ranking, with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 taking the next spot and Super Mario Bros. Wonder closing out the top 5. Xbox exclusive Hi-Fi Rush also got a mention at number 6 while the highly successful Resident Evil 4 managed to snatch the number 7 spot. In addition, Robocop: Rogue City continues its hot streak, ending up at the eighth spot following its commercial and critical success.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora was released on December 7, 2023, for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. eXputer’s review of the game rated it 3/5, with writer Huzaifah Durrani calling it another average Ubisoft game.
