Ubisoft Gives An Update On Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time Remake

The game was first revealed over 3 years ago.

Story Highlights

  • Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is a reimagining of the original game from 2003.
  • According to a new post on X by the official handle, the game’s development is going well.
  • Ubisoft asks you to stay tuned in and wait until more stuff can be officially announced.

We almost forgot about this one, but alas! Ubisoft confirms that the previously announced Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is quite not dead, and instead, has its development going well as of late. The devs say that the game has “passed an important internal milestone” and that details will be announced soon enough, particularly when the project has arrived at a certain stage.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is a timeless classic, celebrated across the world for its narrative, enjoyable gameplay, and a fairly interesting plotline that has you hooked right from the get-go. That is why when Ubisoft made the announcement of the reimagining of this iconic action-adventure back in September 2020 at Ubisoft Forward, people embraced the news with open arms.

That said, things weren’t too straightforward from there on. During the initial announcement of the game from the side of the developer — which was Ubisoft India/Pune at the time — The Sands of Time Remake was supposed to make landfall in 2021. Those prospects didn’t go according to plan, unluckily, and the remake saw itself suffering from multiple delays

Eventually, the control of the developer shifted from Ubisoft Mumbai to Ubisoft Montreal as well, which is the studio that helped create the original Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. When that took place, things got back to ground zero, with the title retreating to its “conceptual phase” for a change in direction.

Ubisoft Montreal is the birthplace of the original Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and, well, that’s a big deal. That’s a big deal for everyone in Montreal, I will be honest. And there’s a bit of pride to be able to take a second look at the game and identify the new tech we can showcase the Prince’s journey with, and bring the Montreal expertise that we’ve developed – on storytelling, on gameplay, on art – and leveraging the knowledge we have built since the original Sands of Time came out. It’s a pretty exciting time,” said Producer Jean-Francois Naud

With this new update, hardcore franchise fans are at least reassured that the project isn’t something that Ubisoft has abandoned at the moment. We have The Game Awards 2023 approaching early next month, and speculation has it that a bit more of the title could be shown off during the event, but that’s just a guess from our side.
