We see a lot of games released every year in our very competitive gaming industry, but only a few leave a long-lasting impact among this myriad of games. Video games like that come across only once every few years. One such generational game launched this year in the form of Elden Ring.
It took the world by storm and quickly became one of the best-selling games of the year. All of that hype wasn’t for nothing because the game is one of the best open-world games you will ever play. Elden Ring has broken many records, from ratings to sale numbers, but the game has now reached another milestone.
Elden Ring has sold 13.4 million copies worldwide, as of March 31, according to BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment’s most recent financial report. However, these sales are only until the end of March.
We are currently in May, so the sales could be much more than 13 million copies. However, it is a splendid achievement for the game nevertheless. Just in the middle of March, the game had sold over 12 million copies across the world and surpassed 13 million copies sold just a couple of weeks after that.
For a game that is actually very difficult, sale numbers like these are really astounding. Souls-like games are notoriously hard and everyone is aware of this aspect of Elden Ring.
However, this hasn’t affected the sales of FromSoftware‘s recent action role-playing game one bit and it continues to sell like hotcakes. Sales numbers like these are no surprise if you consider the rating barriers that Elden Ring has broken.
The game has one of the highest Metacritic ratings in the history of gaming and that is a huge milestone. Metacritic rates games and movies on a weighted scale, so getting such a high score on the website is something only a generational game could do, and Elden Ring is certainly one of the best games of this past decade.
Many players think that the game will reach 20 million copies sold by the end of this year. Considering its amazing longevity even months after release, this prediction might come true.
