God Of War Ragnarok Becomes Fastest-Selling First-Party Launch In PS History

God of War Ragnarok claims another record to its name as it becomes the fastest-selling first-party launch in PlayStation history.

God of War Ragnarok is now the fastest-selling first-party launch game on PlayStation. Santa Monica Studio‘s latest release has sold a total of 5.1 million copies in its debut week to claim the franchise record.

Earlier this week, God of War Ragnarok sold over ninety thousand physical copies in Spain alone.

Major Takeaways:

  • Santa Monica Studios’ GoW Ragnarok becomes the fastest-selling first-party launch in PlayStation history.
  • God of War Ragnarok was released on November 9 and sold 5 million copies in about two weeks.

GoW Ragnarok has been going off the shelves everywhere since its release on November 9, 2022. The game has broken many records with its popularity since then. The single-player video game was also nominated for The Game Awards’ Game of the Year, Best Narrative, Best Direction, and several others.

The Game Awards will be held in December, and out of all the nominees, GoW Ragnarok looks like the most likely candidate to beat Elden Ring and claim the Game of the Year award.

The game’s massive popularity has made the fans request DLC and a New Game Plus mode. However, there’s no news for any of it yet. It is unlikely that the game will receive any DLC because the GoW 2018 didn’t receive any either.

PlayStation announced GoW Ragnarok’s achievement on their official Twitter. The post mentioned that God of War Ragnarok had sold over 5 million copies since its debut week.

Despite God of War Ragnarok’s success in sales worldwide, it appears that the game isn’t able to conquer Japan yet.

Besides that, God of War Ragnarok has established itself as one of the best games released in 2022. The game becoming the fastest-selling first-party launch only solidifies that statement.
