Gotham Knights’ Gameplay Footage Gets Uploaded Online

A 30-min PlayStation 5 walkthrough was uploaded on YouTube before being taken down for copyright.

Gotham Knights, an action RPG developed by Warner Bros, has been in the news for several days now for all the wrong reasons. The game, revealed in August 2020 during DC FanDome, is said to be locked at 30 fps. This is very unusual for a modern game, especially after the launch of next-gen consoles.

Just today it was claimed by a Redditor that they had received a copy of Gotham Knights early from their local retailer. Since the claim was corroborated by a picture of Gotham Knights’ disc casing, many were anticipating gameplay footage of the game.

MAJOR TAKEAWAYS

  • A small-time YouTuber has uploaded a 30-minute walkthrough of Gotham Knights, later taken down for copyright.
  • This comes after hours a Redditor had claimed to have the game’s copy early from their local retailer.
  • Earlier the game was in news for capping the frame at just 30 FPS, much to the dismay of those eagerly awaiting the game’s release.
  • Gotham Knights will be released on 21 October for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Now just within hours of that post, 30+ minutes of gameplay footage of Gotham Knights has been uploaded on YouTube almost a week before the game’s launch. The video was removed for copyright. The video was later reuploaded on a different channel.

The game starts with Batman returning from a mission, injured, to the Batcave. He is then ambushed by an unknown assailant who is later revealed to be Batman’s arch nemesis, Ra’s al Ghul. The player is still not in control.

Both Batman and Ra’s al Ghul fight it off, with Ra’s overpowering the injured Batman. Batman, sensing he can’t kill him through hand-to-hand combat or even with his gadgets, decides to switch-on Batcave’s self-destruction mechanism. He also sets off a broadcast summoning Batgirl, Nightwing, Robin, and Red Hood, the four main protagonists of the Gotham Knights game.

They all arrive at a blown-up cave and find Batman’s body, confirming his death. It’s not clear whether Ra’s al Ghul died or not, as his body is absent from the scene. Then the game continues with Batman’s(Bruce Wayne) funeral, ultimately leading the player to choose the character among the four protagonists.

The choice is not final, as the players will be able to swap between characters mid-gameplay. Gotham Knights players will also be able to play along with their friends, as the game has co-op multiplayer mode.

The uploader has 6 more videos up for upload, which could mean they might leak the whole Gotham Knights gameplay even before the game’s official.

Also, the gameplay footage was uploaded on a small-time YouTube channel. Although it’s not clear whether they are the same person who made that Reddit post. If not then it raises the question of why are the game copies being given out almost a week earlier than the game’s release.

Gotham Knights will be released on 21st October 2022 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S.
