Granblue Fantasy: Relink Devs Say Each Character Offers A Unique Experience

The game is now out across different platforms.

Story Highlights

  • Granblue Fantasy: Relink is a new JRPG by known developer Cygames, released today for current-gen platforms.
  • General Director, Tetsuya Fukuhara, and Director Yasuyuki Kaji from Cygames recently put out more info for the title.
  • Each playable character in Granblue Fantasy: Relink is set to offer a distinctively unique experience in the game.

Granblue Fantasy: Relink is another one of those exciting new releases in 2024, significantly adding to the prospect of this year being the year of JRPGs and nothing else. Developer and publisher Cygames released the title’s launch trailer ahead of its release, and now, the developing heads have come forward in a new PlayStation blog post to detail some of the features players can expect going forward.

The General Director of Fantasy: Relink Tetsuya Fukuhara, while expanding on the topic of characters, iterated,

From the initial concept stage, our goal was to make it so that even those still new to action games could control their character skillfully. As we refined the details like movements and hit timing, we adjusted the battle speed; Slower movement or delayed timing would ruin the exhilarating sensation, and faster movement or quicker timing would make it too difficult for the player to keep up with the movement.”

In addition, Relink’s Director Yasuyuki Kaji also noted that with this game, Cygames wanted to keep the combat system and other pertinent gameplay systems open-ended while also admitting that the first Granblue Fantasy was relatively strict on that front. That is also another reason for the game’s combat flowing so fluidly, and having played the title myself as well, I can certainly vouch for this statement.

When choosing characters to include in Relink, we envisioned which characters from the original title would offer a unique play feel and contribute best to make the game more exciting. In earlier days of development, I recall reminding the team not to hold back their creativity because they seemed too focused on mirroring the animation and styles of the original title,” said Fukuhara while emphasizing the availability of about 20 characters in Relink.

In case you missed it, Granblue Fantasy: Relink’s launch trailer came out about three days ago, showcasing exhilarating action and explosive gameplay that speaks volumes about how enjoyable this JRPG truly is. As such, the title’s playable demo crossed over 600,000 players when it came out last month, signaling fan interest and overall appeal for the title.
