GTA V Sells 165 Million Copies To Achieve New Milestone

If you haven’t been living under a rock for the past decade, you probably know about GTA V. Every gamer has played this game at least once in their life and the open-world game is universal by now. The game racked up huge sales and critical acclaim when it first launched back in 2013. However, everyone expected this with the hype it had but the surprising part is how it continues to sell remarkably even 10 years after its release. GTA V has not left the top 10 year-end lists since its release and that’s very insane. Recently, the earning report for Q4 2022 from Take-Two Interactive updates the GTA sales number to a very high amount.

GTA V has now passed the 165 million copies sold landmark, according to the recent financial results from Take-Two Interactive. It has sold an astonishing amount of copies, with 165 million units sold as of March 31, 2022. This number is also 5 million more than the one in the Q3 2022 results back in February. So, the game is continuing to sell in heaps even 10 years after it first came out.

Take-Two Interactive also tell us about the newly released next-generation version of GTA V in this earnings call. No specific sales number is given for this version of the game but we are assuming that it will sell a lot as well. Rockstar Games got a lot of bad press after announcement of GTA+ back in March. Players thought that it was just a blatant cash grab but it seems like the controversy didn’t impact sales.

The overall sales of the franchise has crossed the stunning milestone of 375 million copies sold. The release of GTA Trilogy – The Definitive Edition last year will definitely have helped in bolstering these sales. However, GTA V makes up almost 50% of the overall sales and that shows how influential the game actually is. GTA series is now the third best-selling game series of all time, only behind Super Mario and Pokémon. However with the crazy hyped GTA 6 in development, it will probably take the first spot soon.

You won’t be surprised to know that Take-Two Interactive had a strong year after seeing the numbers above. The company made a very competent $930 million in revenue, which is 11% more than last year. In other notable news, Red Dead Redemption has now sold 44 million copies in another milestone for Rockstar Games. However, the main star of the show, once again, is GTA V.
