Story Highlights
- Insomniac Games was once allegedly planning to release an online multiplayer Spider-Man entry.
- The info was discovered in the latest leaks that have emerged because of the recent ransomware attack.
- A bundle of artwork and various concept images have leaked that show what the title could have been.
A recent leak has revealed plenty of details regarding Insomniac Games’ future endeavors, including a canceled Spider-Man project dubbed “Spider-Man: The Great Web.” The devs once planned an online multiplayer Spider-Man title that wanted to be the embodiment of “Spider-Man meets GTA Online” for the franchise. Details regarding the project have sprawled around the gaming forums, including Reddit and NeoGAF threads.
The live service title was not allegedly far into production, but many surfaced concept images and character artwork show that it was seriously considered. The art style in some of the leaked pictures seems to completely resemble Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, while Insomniac Games went with a Spider-Verse art style in a different set of images. Character models of multiple Spider-Heroes have also appeared, including Spider-Gwen, Silk, and more.
No other details are known besides the fact that it was going to feature in-game purchases and have a “Spider-Hero for every player.” It could have featured servers allowing a certain amount of players on it, something akin to GTA Online—like one of the images referenced. However, connecting the various dots has revealed that this mystery multiplayer game was slashed before actual development could start on it.
One big proof of its cancellation is the studio’s leaked future games timeline in the same leak. It does not say anything about the online title. Instead, multiple other entries for the same IP are included. Another roadmap does state other multiplayer titles that could be released over the years, but the contradictions imply that it is outdated. Additionally, that roadmap also did not mention the same multiplayer Spider-Man title.

Insomniac Games was hit with the brunt of a ransomware attack, which is the culprit behind these massive findings. It evidently confirmed that the studio is devising to brew multiple Marvel’s Spider-Man and X-Man games over the next decade. Some of the names include Marvel’s Venom, Spider-Man 3, another multiplayer project, and more.
It is worth mentioning that these plans are always subject to change. The leaks could also be outdated, and we may see a revamped multiplayer Spider-Man game in the future. Insomniac Games has not acknowledged any of the details about the canceled project and leaked images. So, we suggest taking these rumors with a grain of salt for now.
