Jurassic World Evolution 2 PC Sales Lower Than Expected

Jurassic World Evolution 2 launched recently on the PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and the XBOX Series X/S. The game came out to a mostly positive reception from critics and gamers alike with many noting the improvements made in the jump from the first game but some also cited a lack of innovation in the game’s formula. 

However, the game has been on a slow start when it comes to sales. With Frontier Development mentioning to investors during a trading update that sales on PC in particular were lower than what was expected. This lack of sales can very likely be attributed to an unfortunately busy launch window consisting of games like Football Manager 2022 and the absolute behemoth of a release that was Forza Horizon 5, which has proved to be one of the best and most successful racing games of all time.

Frontier Development have further a projected a higher estimated revenue in the first 12 months of the game’s release than that of the first game with the company expecting majority of their sales during the Winter Sale around Christmas with over 440k people wishlisting the game on steam. Further revenue is also expected with the release of the movie “Jurassic World Dominion” launching June, 2022. 

The company further mentions, “Jurassic World Evolution 2 will be our biggest release and our largest revenue contributor in this financial year FY22, the 12 months to 31 May 2022. Based on the lower initial PC sales noted above and the under-performance of Odyssey in the financial year to date, we are prudently updating our revenue guidance for FY22 to £100 million to £130 million. The wide guidance range is indicative of the variability of outcomes across our whole portfolio as we approach the important holiday season (Thanksgiving and Christmas).”

Jurassic Park is one of the most iconic and well-recognized franchises in pop-culture. Starting off as a science-fiction novel in 1990 written by Michael Crichton. The franchise reached mainstream appeal with the release of the movies directed by Steven Spielberg. The Jurassic Park series has also received multiple video game adaptations in the form of an adventure game by Telltale Games and more recently, the newly released Jurassic World Evolution 2. It remains to be seen whether Jurassic World Evolution 2 will be successful enough or not.
