In an interview with 4Gamer —translated by Automaton—the series producer Masayoshi Yokoyama has shared his surprise about the swift sales, calling it a speed they “have never experienced before.” It’s because the series often sells slowly yet diligently over time due to an adult audience, but things are quite different now. 

People hear about the games from their friends, they happen to come across them, and that’s how the titles grow. That’s why the way (Infinite Wealth) started was quite surprising to me.”

Similarly, the sales in Asia and Japan have kept up an explosive pace never seen in the history of the franchise. The game sold over a million copies within a week after launch.
