Manor Lords Has Acquired Unprecedented Success, Confirms The Publisher

Not Greg, nor Hooded Horse saw this coming.

Story Highlights

  • Manor Lords is a recently released city building simulator by developer Slavic Magic.
  • In a recent interview, the publisher of the game Hooded Horse has spoken about its success.
  • The game has been more successful so far than what Hooded Horse anticipated, much to its surprise.

Who knew 2024 would welcome such a brilliantly designed city builder, and that too from a solo developer called Greg Styczeń, that would actually go on and become an overnight success? Well, not overnight exactly. Greg did state previously that he worked on this passion project of his for about 7 years and counting, so it’s only fair — considering the effort involved — that Manor Lords hits big.

And apparently, that’s what it’s currently doing. As per an interview with PC Gamer, who has been in talks with the publisher of the project Hooded Horse in recent times, Manor Lords has acquired the type of success that no one saw coming, especially not them. About 4 days ago, I also reported that the title has rolled over a million copies in one day, but clearly, the success story does not end there.

It’s not that we predicted this, but if there had been half the number of players, it would still for all intents and purposes be the same. There would still be an absolute ton of people playing and giving feedback, and looking forward to things. But to be perfectly honest, what we’ve seen is beyond hopes, right?

No-one was sitting there thinking that the game was gonna have more concurrent players for its launch, 173,000 I think, than Total War Warhammer 3 and Civilization 6 on their launches. This was not expected. It went well beyond what we could have hoped, at this point it’s just insane amounts of people,” said Hooded Horse’s CEO Tim Bender

The city builder is currently in early access, with the developer Slavic Magic, which is the name of the studio that Greg has created by himself, currently looking to expand and partner up so work on Manor Lords can be expedited. Hooded Horse also appears to be extremely focused on the way the game’s being received by players right now, and the type of feedback that’s coming in.

Manor Lords came out on April 26, 2024, for PC and Xbox Series X|S in early access, with no current plans for a PlayStation 5 release. If you’re new to the game, I suggest learning how to trade first and foremost and get started from there.
