Metal Slug Tactics Gets A 2024 Release Date

A release date for Metal Slug Tactics has finally been revealed as the RPG roguelike is officially launching worldwide in 2024. According to a statement on the game’s official Discord server, publisher Dotemu has decided to release the game next year to make it worthy of the franchise and the expectations of fans.

In the statement, developers also thanked the players for their patience but didn’t give any specific date for when the RPG would come out. First unveiled back in June 2021, Metal Slug Tactics is the tenth spin-off title in the Metal Slug series of video games. Developed by Leikir Studio and published by Dotemu, the title is a tactical role-playing game with roguelike elements featuring some strategy.

Metal Slug Tactics will see long-term franchise villain Donald Morden make a return with a new army as he stages a coup d’etat after staying in hiding for a while. The former Rebel Army alum wants to get revenge on the planet and It’s up to the PF Squad, which includes Marco, Fio, Eri, and Tarma, to stop Morden before it is too late and the war causes damage.

Besides its platforms being PC and Nintendo Switch, only some information is officially known about Metal Slug Tactics as of now. Dotemu posted a gameplay showcase a month after the RPG’s initial announcement and notified fans on X in August 2022 that the game would now come out in 2023 as the developer needed more time to polish the project. But, as it turns out, that wasn’t the last delay and we’ll have to wait even more to play the Leikir Studio title.

As a franchise, Metal Slug has been around since 1996 as a run-and-gun video game series for arcades. Even though there hasn’t been a mainline entry in the series since 2008’s Metal Slug 7, the series has expanded significantly through spin-offs and remakes. From mobile games like Metal Slug Touch and Metal Slug Attack to remakes like Metal Slug X getting ports for almost every console, the franchise has come a long way from arcades.
