Phil Spencer: “We Look Forward To Partnering Closely With Square Enix On Future Games”

This comes after the announcement of Final Fantasy 14 coming to Xbox platforms.

Story Highlights

  • Square Enix has held a specialized Final Fantasy 14 Fan Festival, showcasing the future of the game across all platforms, and bringing forth exceptionally exciting news for Xbox fans. It appears that Final Fantasy 14 is finally set to arrive on Xbox platforms sometime in 2024.
  • Moreover, Xbox has also announced plans to work closely with Square Enix to finally start bringing its future games to Microsoft’s front-running home video game console as well, right alongside PlayStation and PC.

The ongoing Final Fantasy 14 Fan Festival, which is scheduled to go live again this year and sometime in 2024 as well, has brought thrilling news for Xbox fans. Not only is Final Fantasy 14 coming to Xbox Series X|S in Spring 2024, but company CEO Phil Spencer has also signaled the beginning of a newfound relationship with Square Enix.

Introduced by Yoshi-P, the well-reputed Final Fantasy series frontman, as a special guest at the event, Spencer addressed the audience and said that Xbox has taken inspiration from the mountainous success of Final Fantasy 14 and that the company is looking forward to partnering up with Square Enix for more of its games in the future. According to Phil, this event has marked the very beginning of a new era.

What I really appreciate about [Naoki Yoshida] and your team is you put the player at the center of everything that you do. It couldn’t be more clear than watching your presentation today. At Xbox, we share a very similar spirit when it comes to our players. And we’re really inspired by how you have made Final Fantasy XIV a global success, and we want to bring the Xbox community and your Warriors of Light together in a way that is safe, secure, and engaging, and above all, fun. And we also see this as a seminal moment in our relationship and the bring a title as huge as Final Fantasy 14 to Xbox Series X|S

In other news, the Fan Festival also announced a new expansion for Final Fantasy 14, titled Dawntrail, and that an open beta for the game will be held for Xbox Series X|S with patch 6.5X. It’s worth noting that crossplay will also be supported for the Xbox release of Final Fantasy 14, so it’s possible for players to hook up a connection with those on PC and PlayStation consoles.

The Xbox Series version of the title is slated to come with 4K support, and lightning-fast loading with the powerful hardware of the consoles, of course. The Dawntrial expansion, when it releases, will also be playable on Xbox from here on out, and thanks to the fan event, we now know multiple details regarding the forthcoming DLC, such as how it’s going to bring a whole new world to the table, among other additions.

Final Fantasy 14 was first released in 2010 but has been continually supported by the developers in terms of post-launch content. In 2014, the title was re-released with the moniker of A Realm Reborn, where it eventually went on to recover from its otherwise terrible launch and transform into a completely new game. At the moment, you can play Final Fantasy 14 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5, and PC.
