Greek Retailer Lists Pikmin 4; Release Date Slated For May 26 2023

Nintendo might have decided to send Pikmin off far after its initial announcement in 2015.

Story Highlights:

  • A Greek retailer has listed Pikmin 4 with a release date of May 26th, 2023.
  • May 26th marks a Friday that goes with Nintendo’s practice of releasing their games on Fridays.
  • Nintendo confirmed Pikmin 4 for 2023 in a teaser trailer in September 2022.

A Greek gaming retailer has listed Pikmin 4 for preorder on their website. The retailer has additionally specified a release date for the game. Pikmin 4 is another highly anticipated game for 2023. It was first got hinted at in 2015 and after multiple speculations about its development later, Nintendo announced the game with a teaser trailer in September 2022.

Nintendo is still on wait to reveal the date, however, this greek retailer believes that the date has been chosen. Kudos to GoNintendo for locating the retailer’s profile, the retailer, Game Explorers has listed the Pikmin 4 for preorder with a release date of May 26th, 2023.

May 26th marks Friday on the calendar and as previously known, Nintendo upholds a practice of releasing their games on Fridays. From that, the retailer could be given a chance of trust.

Furthermore, one of the most highly awaited games this year, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom finally has a release date and that coincidentally falls about two weeks before the date indicated by the retailer for Pikmin 4. Both games have been in development for a long and might see a close release too.

Although The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was confirmed back in 2017, the game had multiple setbacks during its development including the pandemic in 2019 and 2020 shutting the industry down. However, the game was also confirmed to be released in 2022 by Nintendo, but it got delayed before getting the 2023 release date.

Nintendo has a history of delaying releases and from that, if Tears of the Kingdom gets delayed another time, a highly feared possibility, they might send Pikmin 4 for a May release to compensate for Zelda. However, this just is speculation and bears no actual base.

On the other hand, Pikmin 4 itself faced a number of delays. Shigeru Miyamoto first confirmed Pikmin 4 in a Eurogamer interview back in 2015, then repeated it in 2016. In 2017, Miyamoto was asked about the game’s development and he said he is not allowed to share any information, however, he assures that the game is progressing.

Then for an entire half a decade, Miyamoto went silent about Pikmin 4 leaving fans wondering if it really was in development. Nintendo once and for all showed its progress when during September 2022 Nintendo Direct, the teaser trailer for the game got revealed to the fans.

Pikmin is a real-time strategy and puzzle video game first published by Nintendo back in 2001. The games center on controlling a swarm of Pikmin, or plant-like creatures, to collect items by breaking barriers, avoiding traps, and combating wildlife that is dangerous to both the player character and the Pikmin.

The trailer confirms that the game’s classic Bulborb antagonists will return, along with the small Dwarf Bulborbs and tiny White Spectralids that resemble butterflies. A  screenshot of some Pikmin engaged in combat with a Bulborb was also shared, which at least seemed to verify the inclusion of at least one new ‘leader’ character in the game.
