Pokemon Scarlet And Violet Become Most Preordered Pokemon Games Ever In Japan

The number of preorders exceeds 1.5 million.

Two new Pokemon games, Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet have been one of the most anticipated Nintendo games of 2022.

And the anticipation is evidenced by the number of preorders Nintendo has received for the games. Going by the company’s figures, these two games have become the most preordered Pokemon games in Japan’s history.

MAJOR TAKEAWAYS

  • Pokemon Violet and Scarlet have become the most preordered Pokemon games in Japan’s history, breaking the record previously held by Pokemon Black and White.
  • Pokemon Black and White had been preordered 1.5 million times back in 2010.
  • The two games are the first installments of the Pokemon game series’ ninth generation.
  • The games will have similar graphics and gameplay with minor differences.
  • The games will be released on 18th November for Nintendo Switch.

This was announced by the CEO of the Pokemon Company, Takahito Utsunomiya. The announcement was made during the event held to celebrate the release of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Making the announcement he said

To my delight, the number of pre-orders has already reached the highest of any Pokémon series in the past. I’m looking forward to delivering it to everyone tomorrow.”

Before, the record for the most preorders was held by Pokemon Black and Pokemon White. They had accumulated around 1.5 million preorders before their launch back in 2010.

So, even though the official numbers have not been announced, it is safe to assume that Pokemon Scarlet and Violet preorders have exceeded that number.

Takahito Utsunomiya also revealed that the Pokemon series games have sold more than 440 million units worldwide. He further said,

All of the history of Pokémon can be traced back here. The total number of Pokémon-related game software has already exceeded 440 million shipments. The Pokemon series was born in Japan and was nurtured by fans all over the world.”

Talking to the Japanese news website, Oricon, Takahito said that Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet will be the “highest achievement of Pokemon” and that the new games will have much longer playing time compared to older Pokemon games.

Due to the element of replaying, the play time to clear will be longer than before, and for those who are used to it, it will take about 30 to 40 hours. For first-timers and those who have been for a long time, it will be about 60 hours.”

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are said to be the first games of the Pokemon game series’ ninth generation. Both games will have similar game settings and graphics. They will also have the same gameplay experience.

But they will have some minor differences such as in exclusives or the nature of the characters. The theme and the world in which they are set in will have some notable differences as well.

Both games are developed by Game Freak, a Japan-based studio, and published by Nintendo and Pokemon Company. The games will be released on 18th November for Nintendo Switch.

On the launch day, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet might even break the record for most sales on launch day held by another Nintendo game, Splatoon 3.

Will Pokemon Scarlet and Violet be able to surpass Splatoon 3 sales on launch day? Discuss in the comments section below.
