PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, or more commonly known as PUBG, is one of the very pioneers of battle royale shooters that have paved the way to an entire industry of this genre, right alongside Fortnite. While it may not technically be the first-ever battle royale game to come out, it definitely is the first one to attract a player base this huge.
Corroborating that is the list of the weekly global top sellers ending 11 July 2021 (via Daniel Ahmad). PUBG appears to be ranking first among nine other games that have made the cut. A large part of this is a 50% off sale live right now on Steam for PUBG. In addition, new content seems to be arriving for the game soon, with a teaser trailer on YouTube confirming the arrival of the Taego map.
Moreover, Sea of Thieves has dropped to #2 but is still managing to do well in terms of sales due to the recently released A Pirate’s Life DLC.
Being a live service game, PUBG continues to thrive with consistent updates and more content dropping frequently. The jump from #4 right up to the top is nothing but praiseworthy.
