In a new press release, Capcom has announced that Resident Evil 4 has surpassed five million copies sold globally since its release last month. Hence, the series has further cemented itself as one of the industry’s most popular with the new action-horror game.

Capcom released this information on their website through a new press release that thanked the fans for their continuous support. According to the Japanese developer, the critical acclaim Resident Evil 4 received was a big reason for this commercial success. Considering how the title has received rave reviews from critics and fans alike all over the world, the developer isn’t wrong

In addition, Capcom also highlighted the free additional content as another reason for this commercial success. The Japanese company released the beloved Mercenaries mode from the original Resident Evil 4 two weeks after the remake’s launch as an additional DLC available for no extra cost, further driving sales. Hence, the marketing strategy and fan service are rightfully considered the main cause for these triumphant sales figures.

After releasing on March 24, 2023, Resident Evil 4 became an instant hit both commercially and critically. It sold over three million copies globally just two days after coming out, selling a further two million copies in roughly four months since its launch. Moreover, the horror title from Capcom received universal acclaim, with critics calling it a worthy successor to the original game.

Its minor changes, faithfulness to the story, and brilliant gameplay were especially highlighted by the critics, with many also labeling the remake as a Game of the Year contender. Therefore, there is no surprise it has sold more than 5 million copies and as rumors circle around regarding the new Separate Ways DLC, it will certainly add a few million more to this number.
