Rockstar Doesn’t Plan To Discuss GTA 6 Online “Anytime Soon,” Says Jason Schreier

Rockstar Games isn’t ready to talk about GTA 6’s online future, and according to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier.

In a YouTube video published August 7, Schreier said: “Take-Two is only talking about GTA 6 in terms of the single-player portion… and not GTA Online. They have not talked at all, and they are not planning to talk anytime soon about what the new GTA Online will look like, and what that recurring spend will look like.”

Notably, Schreier didn’t cite Zelnick or any other named source for this specific claim; he stated it as established fact rather than speculation, which carries weight given his track record on Rockstar reporting.

During the same earnings call Schreier references, Zelnick did confirm Take-Two plans to keep supporting the existing GTA Online, while not indicating when a new version will be revealed.

Rockstar has consistently marketed GTA 6 purely as a single-player experience since pre-orders opened in June, avoiding any online framing in trailers or messaging so far. Keeping the focus narrow lets the campaign, story, and world carry the marketing without competing against a second, unrelated product pitch.

There’s also a practical case for waiting: the original GTA Online launched a few weeks after GTA 5, giving Rockstar precedent for staggering the reveal rather than announcing everything on day one.

What This Means for GTA Online Players

The current GTA Online has run for over a decade, with players holding characters, businesses, and purchases across multiple console generations. Whether a new online mode replaces it, runs alongside it, or connects to it in some way remains unconfirmed, so any claims about migration, transfers, or timing should be treated as speculation until Rockstar says otherwise.

Rockstar’s next confirmed update is an “extended look” at GTA 6, debuting via Netflix on August 27, but based on Schreier’s comments, don’t expect online details there either.
