Story Highlights
- The Silent Hill 2 remake is currently being worked on by Bloober Team, with initial impressions looking solid.
- In a recent interview, Bloober has explained its decision to remake Silent Hill 2 and not the first game.
- Bloober was picked to remake Silent Hill 2 because Konami has “plans with the franchise.”
Bloober Team is the developer responsible for the upcoming, exceptionally anticipated Silent Hill 2 remake. Being a fan of the franchise, October can’t come sooner, but the question still stands: Why didn’t Konami — or Bloober for that matter — consider reimagining the first Silent Hill before the second? For all we know, that title got skipped over bad, right? Well, not exactly.
Speaking to Rock Paper Shotgun, the Creative Director at Bloober, Mateusz Lenart, and Lead Producer, Maciej Głomb, have confirmed that the studio was best-picked for working on the remake of Silent Hill 2 because of its “DNA” and the titles it’s formerly made. In addition, it’s been said that Konami — the IP owner — has plans of its own for the franchise.
Yeah, Silent Hill 2 is the best match for us as Bloober Team, in terms of our DNA and the games that we’ve done and that we did previously. On the other hand, it’s not like we were making this decision, right? The franchise is connected to Konami’s plans.”
Furthermore, it’s important that we remember that Bloober does not call the shots here—Konami does. So it is possible that the OG title — the one that came out in 1999 and went on to become an all-time classic — gets rediscovered sometime down the road.
Bloober’s past works include Layers of Fear, The Medium, Observer, and Blair Witch, with all of these pertaining to the horror genre in one way or the other. No wonder it’s a good fit for Konami.
The Silent Hill 2 Remake’s Rep Has Gone Up Since Its Initial Reveal
Silent Hill 2’s initial “combat trailer” was a massive let-down, because, well, it was not too Silent Hill-y. The trailer’s reaction sure got a reaction out of Bloober, who responded by saying that the footage “did not reflect the game’s spirit.” Fast-forward to PlayStation’s State of Play event two months ago, Bloober won hearts back with a tantalizing new release date trailer, showcasing breathtaking atmosphere of the upcoming thriller.
Silent Hill 2 makes landfall on October 8, 2024, for the PlayStation 5 and PC, following its initial announcement in October 2022, during the Silent Hill Transmission live stream. Aside from this title, other Silent Hill projects are also in the works, including two spin-offs, an interactive video series, and a movie.
