Story Highlights
- A Silent Hill 2 remake is coming out later this year, as announced during Silent Hill Transmission in 2022.
- The game, as per the Konami producer Motoi Okamoto, is now nearing the end of its development.
- In the meantime, Motoi encourages downloading and playing Silent Hill: The Short Message.
The forthcoming remake of Konami’s Silent Hill 2 is almost at the finish line for its development, as confirmed by the producer of the project Motoi Okamoto in a recent interview with Famitsu. Motoi says that while it’s difficult to say more about the title’s actual release at the moment, it’s going to live up to expectations, that’s for sure. The gaming industry will be deciding that itself later, though.
We are at the final stage of development. Unfortunately, there is little I can tell you at this point. As a game, you can imagine that Silent Hill 2 is the same as everyone imagines, and is easy to play even in modern times, and can be enjoyed with beautiful visuals that look like a direct form of memory correction,” says Motoi (via Google Translate).
For those not in the know, Konami came through in October 2022, with a full-fledged live stream dedicated to long-awaited Silent Hill news. It showed off a handful of projects pertaining to the IP, including Silent Hill f, Silent Hill: Townfall, and Silent Hill: Ascension—all under the works at present—and the remake in question. There was also the reveal of a new Silent Hill movie, titled Return to Silent Hill, that’s coming out this year.
Elsewhere, another Silent Hill game seems to be making rounds across the board—Silent Hill: The Short Message, which is a free-to-play psychological thriller that came out about two weeks ago. The title has clocked about 2 million downloads in recent times, built from the ground as a “new, modern Silent Hil” for the new generation of players. For reference, the glory days of the Silent Hill IP date back to the early 2000s.

The Silent Hill 2 remake does not have a concrete release date as of yet but is expected to launch sometime later in 2024. The developer Bloober Team released a new trailer for the game earlier, but I don’t feel it truly captured the essence of Silent Hill’s true significance. Feel free to give it a watch here.
