Star Wars Outlaws has gathered a fair bit of hype to its name, but the open-world RPG’s official release still remains unknown. That is, well until today, when a Disney Parks blog post detailing some of the new Disney experiences in 2024 spilled the beans on Star Wars Outlaws’ release window, which is “late” 2024 (thanks IGN). Disney owns the Star Wars IP thanks to its acquisition of Lucasfilm, so the information’s source makes sense.
Star Wars Outlaws, the open world Star Wars game, is set to release late this year. The game lets you explore distinct planets across the galaxy, both iconic and new. You can risk it all as Kay Vess, an emerging scoundrel seeking freedom and the means to start a new life, along with her companion Nix. If you’re willing to take the risk, the galaxy is full of opportunity.”
Looking back, Outlaws was first announced in 2021 via an official Ubisoft blog post, where it was said that both the French developer slash publisher and Lucasfilm Games are collaborating on a new Star Wars project. Ubisoft co-founder Yves Guillemot said at the time. “The vast Star Wars lore is an incredible source of inspiration for our teams. This is the beginning of a long-term collaboration with Disney and Lucasfilm Games.”
Fast-forward to 2023, the Xbox Games Showcase gave the world a proper reveal of the game, confirming Kay Vess, a literal outlaw, to be the protagonist along with the overall setting of the title, which dangles between The Empire Strikes Back and The Return of the Jedi. According to Massive Entertainment, the developer of the game, this was a time when the underworld “thrived,” so the premise for Kay’s lawlessness turned out utterly fortuitous.

One of the reasons to be excited about this game is its traversal, which has allegedly been held in good graces. A trusted industry insider has reason to believe that Star Wars Outlaws traversal mechanics are going to be as fluid and smooth as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, if not better. This, of course, is a solid claim, but there is the part about seamless ground-to-space transitions in the game, which the developer has already validated, so there’s that.
Star Wars Outlaws will come out on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Ubisoft Connect, with a rumor that it won’t be launching on Steam or Epic Games in the start.
