A Third Plague Tale Likely In Production, Job Listings Suggest

The entry seems to be in early pre-production stages.

Story Highlights

  • A third Plague Tale title could already be in the pre-production stages, as suggested by recent job listings available on the “Careers” section of the website.
  • Asobo Studio is hiring a Senior Game Designer who wants to “strengthen the team” behind the past games for a project that utilizes the highly popular IP, which teases the third title.
  • The hiree will participate in the “different phases of brainstorming at the beginning of the project.” The team is also hiring a VFX Artist, a Senior Gameplay Animator, and a Senior AI programmer.
  • The devs previously suggested that the reception of A Plague Tale: Requiem could decide the fate of the third entry. We suggest taking the new job listings with a grain of salt.

Update: The concerned job listing has since been deleted.

It seems that we could soon be getting a third entry in the popular Plague Tale franchise, as teased by recent job listings that have appeared online. The “Careers” page at Asobo Studio is filled with open listings for two titles. One of these two entries is highly rumored to be the third plague tale title. Some of the vacancies are specifically hiring for the series, as hinted by the “(Plague Team)” words in the title of the listings.

In other words, the unnamed entry may have already entered into the early pre-production stages. The first job listing for the Senior Game Designer seeks to “strengthen the team” behind A Plague Tale: Requiem for a project that utilizes the highly popular IP.

The studio requires the hiree to partake in the “different phases of brainstorming at the beginning of the project.” Moreover, Asobo Studio would prefer if the employee has played one or both past releases as well as has a fondness for the narrative adventure genre of games. The team is hiring a VFX Artist, a Senior Gameplay Animator, and a Senior AI programmer for the third Plague Tale title.

It is worth noting that Asobo Studio also has another AAA project in the works that uses cloud-based technologies. The devs are also hiring for the Microsoft Flight Simulator project, as per the open vacancies. And since the team is hiring for significant roles for the new Plague Tale title, we may not hear anything official about it in the next few years.

Additionally, the devs have also called A Plague Tale: Requiem the end of the series in the past before it was released. According to an interview on the PlayStation Blog, the devs wanted to first see the reception of the game before proceeding with the third entry in the franchise. It appears that the positive reception has inspired the team to continue with the Plague Tale universe.

I think, for now, it’s the end. But the door is never closed, and we’ll see the player reception. We want to see their reaction before deciding anything. They are driving our production, and if they don’t like what we’ve done, we need to do something else,” said director Kevin Choteau.

Despite some hints and tidbits, the exact details in the recent job listings are still quite hazy. While the skeletal project is in extremely early stages if the open vacancies are to be believed. We suggest taking the brewing rumors of a new Plague Tale entry with a big pinch of salt.

Both past games have boasted small yet loyal communities, and the demand for the third title only exploded with the latest release. A Plague Tale: Requiem was released to critical acclaim across the gaming industry despite its fair share of performance issues after launch.

A Plague Tale: Requiem crossed one million users in the span of a single month and bagged a number of awards at The Game Awards 2022 event. Yet still, some have dubbed the game the most underrated release of last year.
