Genshin Impact Reaches New Sales Milestone

$1.9 Billion in revenue solely on mobile platforms

Released last year back on the 28th of September, Genshin Impact has experienced an insane amount of growth over its 11 months. With a constant string of new updates adding new regions, new characters as well as new events, Genshin Impact shows no signs of slowing down as Mihoyo keeps bringing out new content for the game. And it seems with the newest update 2.1 and the addition of the game’s latest 5-star character “Raiden Shogun” Aka “Baal” the game has had its most profitable month to date with many new players joining the game to pull for the newest character.

Excitement for Raiden Shogun had been high ever since she was announced and her outstanding character trailer pretty much convinced a lot of both old and new players(including myself) to join the world of Gacha hell. The game has also managed to generate a total of a whopping $1.9 Billion in revenue solely on smartphones, an insane amount that gets even more surprising when one considers the numbers on PlayStation and PC.

The game is also acutely familiar with this kind of progress, reaching a $1 billion milestone with its mobile release only in March of this year, becoming the fastest mobile game to have reached this milestone. Sensortower’s latest report also mentions that 40% of the revenue for the first week of September has been generated by Japanese and US Audiences with Japan contributing 19% of the revenue and the US 20%. An incredible 37% of revenue coming solely from China as one would obviously expect.

Genshin Impact shows no signs of slowing down as the game reaches a new milestone in generated revenue.

Genshin Impact is an anime Open-world Action RPG inspired by Nintendo’s masterpiece The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild, it mixes Zelda’s exploration heavy open-world with traditional JRPG elements and places them in a free-to-play “Gacha” system that makes you buy items using in-game currency to have a chance at getting new characters while also letting you pay real cash to get said items.

While the “Gacha” system has been criticized by a lot of gamers, it has to be said that Genshin is a free-to-play title and the game explicitly mentions your chances to get any kind of item. And it’s also a huge reason for the game’s incredible success. In less than a year, Genshin Impact has cemented itself into the gaming landscape as one of the top earners in the industry with Mihoyo also growing at an exponential rate since the game’s release causing them to pump out more in-depth and progressively better content over the course of the past year.

The game has also experienced a fair share of controversies recently with long-time fans criticizing Mihoyo for their decision of shutting down various leakers within the community but as of now, the game’s success continues to be at a steady incline and only time will tell if it’s going to stay that way.
