According to Sony’s official Q1 FY2026 earnings presentation, the company has secured the memory supply needed to meet its PlayStation 5 sales targets through the end of the fiscal year. Sony brought this up to assure its investors that the PS5 is safe from RAM shortage issues until the end of fiscal year 2026.

Regarding the impact of memory market conditions on PlayStation 5 hardware, we have secured the quantity of memory necessary to meet our projected sales volume for fiscal year 2026 “

Sony’s FY26 concludes on March 31, 2027. In practical terms, its current memory procurement should therefore cover planned PS5 production and sales for approximately eight more months.

Memory availability has become an increasingly important consideration for hardware manufacturers. Greater demand from AI data centers and other technology sectors can place pressure on component supply, potentially increasing production costs for consumer electronics.

Sony’s update indicates that it does not expect those conditions to interfere with its current PS5 sales plan. That does not guarantee immunity from every supply-chain problem, of course, but memory should not be the component holding PS5 production back.

No Additional PS5 Price Increase Is Currently Planned Apparently

The wording of their statement indicates that no price hikes due to RAM shortages and memory demand are planned, at least until March 2027.

The PlayStation 5 devices already went through a price hike recently. The standard U.S. price rose to $649.99, the Digital Edition to $599.99, and the PS5 Pro to $899.99. In comparison, the base PS5 launched with a price tag of $500 for the disc edition and $400 for the digital edition.

For consumers, the immediate takeaway is straightforward: Sony expects to have enough memory to produce the PS5 units required by its existing sales forecast, and it is not preparing another price hike in response to those component costs.

Availability can still vary by model and region, while retailers remain responsible for their own stock and promotions. Still, Sony’s supply update reduces the risk of a memory shortage disrupting its wider PS5 plans before March 2027.

It is reassuring news for prospective buyers, but not a permanent price guarantee.
