Want A Free PS5? Become A Police Officer In Brazil

Turns out the state is distributing 18 PlayStation 5s to its workers.

Story Highlights

  • The State of Amazon has announced that it will be purchasing 18 PS5s for its new QoL program.
  • Officers will also receive a 5-year subscription to PS Plus.

The Public Security Secretariat of the State of Amazonas (Amazon) has announced that as a part of its Quality of Life at Work Program, it will be giving its officers a ton of equipment and furniture. The state plans on holding a tender on November 7th to acquire the items it deems necessary for this program. Among the list, are 18 units of the PlayStation 5.

While the PS5 was not named directly, the press release mentions a Sony console, the specifications of which line up. Officers will also be treated to a subscription plan, which includes downloading games for a 5-year period. It’s clear that PS Plus is being referenced in this clause. According to the Amazon government,

The initiative aims to promote initiatives aimed at improving the respective work environments, health and improving the quality of the work environments of the agency’s employees”.

Alongside the Sony console, the government also intends to acquire 96 puffs, 18 massaging armchairs, and 18 coffee machines. Its new Quality-of-Life program also includes distributing 6 ping-pong tables, and 18 televisions among its workers, according to a report by Folha de S. Paulo. The resources for these items were allocated by the National Public Security Fund.

While some have decided to poke fun at the whole thing, likening Brazil to a GTA server, others have used this news to further fuel their console wars. A user at NeoGAF stated that the PS5 was the right choice, especially considering the price hike of the Series S. Microsoft recently announced that it’d be increasing the cost of the Series S in Brazil. The console is generally seen as an affordable entry into current-gen games.

However, with this recent spike, that might end up changing for Brazillian gamers. The Series S is expected to cost around $3,599 in Brazilian Real (around $710). Previously, it was available for around R$2500. This brings it to a similar price range as the original Digital Edition PlayStation 5, which is generally a much better consideration since it has the same power as a regular PS5.
