Xbox Series X Dominates Black Friday Sales This Year

The Microsoft console alongside the Nintendo Switch dominated the holiday season

The Black Friday season is in right now and consoles always sell big during this time. It is no different this year as gaming products have dominated sales this holiday season. More specifically, the Xbox Series X has won the Black Friday sale being the most sold product during this time.

Xbox Series X beat the sales of merchandise toys like the cartoon character “Bluey.” Even singular games didn’t beat the sales of the consoles as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II took the No.3 spot. Hence, the console has won the shopping holiday by a huge margin according to Washington Examiner.

Major Takeaways:

  • Xbox Series X topped the Black Friday sales chart this year with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
  • Nintendo Switch held the No.1 spot in sales during the Thanksgiving period, alongside God of War Ragnarok.
  • No PlayStation console made an appearance in the top 5.

Modern Warfare II selling so well alongside the Series X is probably an effect of the Microsoft and Activision Blizzard acquisition. PlayStation has the marketing rights to the franchise but the Xbox and Call of Duty double still ruled charts. So, maybe the consumers are relating the product to Xbox due to the ongoing deal.

Black Friday also overlapped this year with another holiday season sale. Thanksgiving sales were also in full effect as the holiday was celebrated this past Thursday. And, another console dominated the product sales in this sale too.

Nintendo Switch was the hottest-selling product of the American federal holiday this year. It beat out high-selling products like toys based on the game Roblox and Paw Patrol. Knowing how popular they are among kids, this is a huge deal.

Sony did get one of its products on the charts this holiday season. God of War Ragnarok holds the No.3 spot in the Thanksgiving holiday product sales this year. It is continuing its amazing performance after reaching its initial sales projection easily

The game has sold more than 5 million copies and has become the biggest PlayStation first-party launch. Hence, it’s safe to say God of War Ragnarok is showing no signs of stopping. Its performance is even more important considering PlayStation 5 didn’t make the top 5 list.

Xbox Series X beating out the Sony console is a surprise considering the momentum the latter was gaining. Most probably, it is because of the decrease in PlayStation 5 stock due to the sales. But, it’s still a great move from Microsoft to hold back the stock for the holiday season.

Even with the inflation, shoppers spent $9.12 billion on holiday sales this season, including Black Friday. On average, each person bought 2 or 3 items so console sales obviously increased during this time. So holding back the Xbox Series X for this time was genius.

No Xbox Series S showed up in the top 5 however, which is a surprise considering its price cuts and collabs. More reports will come listing more than the top 5 and we are sure to see more gaming products in there. But one thing is for sure, Xbox Series X dominated the competition this holiday season.
