After past rumors, Doom Eternal is getting official mod support on Steam. id Software has confirmed in a new announcement that it’s releasing the public beta of idStudio on Steam, allowing players to create and publish original mods in a dedicated library. Players who have bought the game on Steam and the Microsoft Store can play the mods if they opt-in to the DOOM Eternal: PC Mod Preview.

We are so impressed with the DOOM Eternal community mods created without any official tools. They inspired us to release a public beta of idStudio for creators and an opt-in PC mod preview for players to easily browse and play mods. We can’t wait to see what this community does next!” reads the description.

Players can enroll in the beta by choosing the specific branch under the game’s properties tab on Steam.

Doom Eternal Will Likely Get Hundreds Of Amazing Mods In The Future

The move to release official mod support for the game will add more to its lifespan over the next few years. The players will get to try out all the serious and goofy mods, whether they’re focused on enhancing the gameplay or adding comedic elements that no one saw coming. We might just get to see someone add Animal Crossing’s Isabelle to the FPS.
