Skullgirls has been around for a long time now and it originally came out way back in 2012. Publisher Autumn Games initially released the fighting RPG through the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade. Following its initial success on these platforms, the studio ported the game to many other platforms.
A Microsoft Windows port came out in 2013 and current-gen consoles also got Skullgirls in 2015. The name of this port was Skullgirls 2nd Encore and it was only released on the PlayStation 4 and PC. Surprisingly, it didn’t launch on the Xbox One, and even the Nintendo Switch finally got a port.
However, that might be changing very soon, according to a new development update.
Publisher Autumn Games have announced that Skullgirls 2nd Encore is releasing on the Xbox One and Xbox Series X in a brand new reveal. While releasing the alpha test footage trailer for the DLC character Black Dahlia, the studio made this news official.
We are excited to finally confirm that we are actively developing Skullgirls 2nd Encore and the Season 1 Pass as an update for the Switch and as a new release for Xbox One & Xbox Series X
A release date for the game isn’t official as of yet but the developers have set a target window. According to Autumn Games, Skullgirls 2nd Encore will launch sometime in 2022 and most probably at the end of the year. The port is in active development but it is going to take some time.
Meanwhile, Black Dahlia is coming to Skullgirls 2nd Encore and also the mobile version. The new character is available on the Season Pass DLC and will fully launch on PC and PS4 in Q4 2022. A Nintendo Switch version of this Battle Pass is currently in development and will allow players to get many other characters like Umbrella and Annie.
With the game coming to the Xbox Series X and Xbox One, players can finally play it on almost every current console. Only a PS5 port hasn’t been developed yet but hopefully, that isn’t too far away. This news has us all excited and we can’t wait to play Skullgirls 2nd Encore on Xbox consoles.
