According to a LinkedIn profile, Ark: Survival Evolved has grossed a tremendous $1.3 billion since releasing in 2015. The action-adventure title has made its developer Studio Wildcard this gigantic sum worldwide in just under eight years. With the sequel getting delayed once again and the next-gen version coming out in August, this gross will only increase.
Timur222 on Twitter discovered this info from the LinkedIn account of Studio Wildcard’s CEO Doug Kennedy. He first uploaded Ark: Survival Evolved’s gross back in July 2020 in the Experience section of his profile. Previously this figure was around $850 million over five years after the game’s release. Hence, the title has brought in at least $450 million in the past three years alone.
Studio Wildcard first launched Ark: Survival Evolved as an early access title in June 2015 for PC only with subsequent releases on PS4 and Xbox One. The full version of the survival game only came out in August 2017 for almost all the main platforms. Due to its popularity, Ark also made its way to Android and iOS a year later. Afterward, the developer also released a port for Nintendo in 2018 and Stadia in 2021.
Back in April, Studio Wildcard announced a next-gen version of the game which is going to launch in August. Titled Ark: Survival Ascended, this version contains the battle royale spinoff, The Island, and every non-canon DLC map. In addition, the graphics and performance of this version will also see an upgrade compared to current-gen consoles.
Studio Wildcard has made the purchase of this remaster necessary as servers of the older versions will go offline. As a result of this and the confusing buying scheme, players have heavily criticized the developers. For the first year after its release, Xbox Series and PC players can only purchase it in a bundle called Ark Respawned. This costs $49.99 and will also contain Ark 2 and both games will be available separately after a year.
However, PlayStation 5 users can buy the new edition as a standalone game for $39.99. With a new DLC also arriving in Q4 2023, buying Ark Survival Ascended isn’t a bad deal at all. Ark 2 is also not arriving any time soon after its most recent delay. Originally meant to come out in 2023, the sequel got delayed to late 2024 by Studio Wildcard last month. Furthermore, the devs only plan to release it on Xbox and PC as of yet and not PlayStation.
Hence, this new Ark remaster could be the only game from the survival franchise that PS fans are getting. Whatever the case, the series will certainly add to its existing $1.3 billion gross with these upcoming releases. You can play Ark: Survival Evolved on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, Nintendo Switch, Android, and iOS before the next-gen edition drops in August.
