Baldur’s Gate 3 Best Feats: Pros & Cons

Selecting Feats in Baldur’s Gate 3 can be a pretty daunting task. Feats are special talents your character can obtain at levels 4, 8, and 12. Every class has access to 3 Feats, with fighters being the only exception, as they have access to another Feat at level 6.

1. Ability Improvement

While this Feat might not look the part, it’s likely the best feat in Baldur’s Gate 3.  No matter what you opt for,  boosting your abilities is a massive perk. Unlike many other Feats, the power spike with Ability Improvement comes when you reach Level 4.

Pros

• It allows you to customize your character’s attributes to how you want them to be.
• Increasing two abilities by 1 or 2 points gives you more options in designing your character.

Cons

• The ability must abide by the game’s maximum limit of 20.
• Investing in one ability might mean missing out on enhancing others.

2. Resilient

In Baldur’s Gate 3, increasing your ability score and gaining proficiencies in your corresponding saving throws can impact your character’s performance and survivability in-game. Although these features can be improved by wearing different equipment pieces, naturally improving them is another thing.

Pros

• You can boost one of your character’s abilities and the skills associated with said ability.
• Gaining proficiency in character-specific ability can make your character more resilient to threats that exploit that specific attribute.

Cons

• Deciding on what ability to boost can be a challenging choice, especially for new players.

3. Lucky

One of the most used mechanics in Baldur’s Gate 3 is Dice Rolls, and the higher the Dice Roll you have, the greater the effect your action or ability will have. So, having a Feat that helps you with this mechanic is truly a Godsend.

Pros

• The versatility of having the ability to reroll your choice to get an advantage on your Attack Rolls, Ability Checks, or even Saving throws is big, especially if you are looking to roll crits or deal more damage.
• Making your enemy reroll their attacks enhances your chances of survival.

Cons

• You only have a limited quantity of Luck Points (3), so you must use them cautiously. Once used, they can only be replenished by a long rest.
• It depends on a dice roll, so it doesn’t guarantee success but increases your odds.

4. Spell Sniper

In Baldur’s Gate 3, Spellcasters have limited spells they can cast per rest. So, having access to a Spell that can be cast infinite times is quite tempting. Especially if you are trying to save one of your spells, a Cantrip can be used to finish off an enemy with low Health or Heal a party member depending on the situation, making Spell Sniper one of the Best Feats in Baldur’s Gate 3 for Spellcasters.

Pros

• This reduces the roll required to land a Critical Hit by 1, increasing the chance to land critical hits.
• The Critical Hit effect can be stacked.

Cons

• The Feat description is misleading, as Melee classes don’t benefit from the Critical Hit effect.
• While it does reduce the roll required to land Critical Hits, it does not guarantee Critical Hits.

5. Savage Attack

As a Melee-focused Class, it’s your job to deal as much damage as possible in close quarters. But sometimes, it can be annoying when an enemy is low on health, and a lower damage Roll on your part causes it to survive. It makes Savage Attack one of the Best Feats for any Melee-Focused class.

Pros

• You roll twice while making a Melee attack and use the highest roll for dealing damage.
• The probability of doing Critical Roll is also increased.

Cons

• It is not helpful for any Ranged-focused Class.

6. Dungeon Delver

Baldur’s Gate 3 is a game filled with hidden levers, doors, and traps. Traps are quite difficult to deal with, and if you don’t spot traps in time, your whole party dies, or they’re suddenly on fire. If you can deal with this scenario without triggering it, it is one of the best Feats you can use on a character with high Perception.

Pros

• You resist the damage inflicted by traps and gain Saving Throws, making it easier to avoid traps.
• Your Perception Checks gain an advantage.

Cons

• Dungeon Delver is mainly focused on Perceptions and Traps, making it less ideal in combat scenarios.

7. Actor

Performance and Deception go hand-in-hand, making it easier for you to charm, deceive, or lie through in-game dialogue options. Giving you the option to solve some situations in-game with negotiations. If you are running a Bard or even a Paladin, Actor can be one of the Best Feats you can pick.

Pros

• It increases your charisma by 1 point, making your character more persuasive and likable.
• You double your proficiencies in Performance and Deception checks.

Cons

• It mainly benefits social interaction and does not increase your combat prowess.
• Due to focusing on Charisma, it’s only useful for some specific classes

My Take On Best BG3 Feat

As you can see, I have put in more than 50 hours in Baldur’s Gate 3. According to me, every Feat has its useability, but the one that takes the Top spot for me is Ability Improvement. Not only can you get this Feat as soon as you reach Level 4, but it provides numerous benefits ranging from Improving your Health to Increasing your Damage output. This allows you to distribute stats on how you want them to be.
