Baldur’s Gate 3 Director Has Figured Out His Next Project’s “Act 1”

This comes after 4 months of constant effort by Swen Vincke.

Story Highlights

  • Baldur’s Gate 3 has been crowned 2023’s Game of the Year for its sheer high-quality.
  • The developer of the title Larian Studios also has another project early in the works at the moment.
  • Larian CEO Swen Vincke says that the first act of his next project has finally been mapped out.

After the show Larian’s latest mega-hit Baldur’s Gate 3 put on in 2023, I have to say that a lot of eyes are on the Belgian game developer at the moment, speculating what’s coming next out of Larian Studios’ masterclass. Well, according to the company’s CEO and founder Swen Vincke, the “Act 1” of the developer’s next project might have been steered in the right direction finally.

Taking to X, Swen expresses his excitement for something that he’s been working on, while also making sure not to give too much away at the time, primarily because there isn’t quite anything well-grounded enough to talk about either, yet. “It’s not what you think and not a teaser for an announcement,” says Swen while clarifying any would-be falsifications.

Been a great morning! After 4 months of rewriting and rewriting and abandoning ideas and then revisiting them, finally figured out what act 1 on this thing I’ve been working on needs to be. Quote me when it’s revealed to see how much of today’s draft survives. I suspect a lot,” said Larian Studios’ CEO.

For those unaware, Baldur’s Gate 3 — and many other RPGs for that matter, such as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — have their chapters set up in acts. Consider an act as an elevated synonym for the word “chapter,” where the act is actually quite bigger in terms of scale. From the looks of it, we very well could have another cRPG in the works at the moment over at Larian’s HQ.

In other news, Belgium-based Larian clearly failed to misfire with Baldur’s Gate 3, which is 2023’s Game of the Year and last year’s winner of the maximum number of awards. No one really saw coming what the RPG at hand had in store for the gaming community, pumping players full of flexibility and allowing them to exercise total control over the way they enjoy their sessions in the title.

Baldur’s Gate 3 was first released to PC on August 3, 2023, following its early access state that kicked off in 2020. Fast-forward a couple of months, and the RPG was launched for the PlayStation 5 in November as well. Finally, the Xbox Series X|S received a port too right during the occasion of The Game Awards. Collectively, Baldur’s Gate 3 has earned a perfect 5/5 score in eXputer’s review, with reviewer Huzaifah Durrani deeming it “one of the greatest RPGs of all time.”
