Earlier today, Microsoft Corporation announced its acquisition of Activision Blizzard for almost $70 billion, making it one of the largest acquisitions ever in the gaming industry. As exhilarating as this news is for the company, it doesn’t end there. With the acquisition of Activision Blizzard, Microsoft is also planning to release as many games onto the Xbox Game Pass.
According to a recent article on the Xbox website, Microsoft Gaming will offer as many games from Activision Blizzard as it can upon the closure of the acquisition deal, both upcoming and released. “Upon close, we will offer as many Activision Blizzard games as we can within Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass, both new titles and games from Activision Blizzard’s incredible catalog,” it states.
According to the previously published report by Bloomberg, the acquisition deal will close in 2023, so we can expect Activision Blizzard games to be making their way into the Xbox Game Pass soon. Furthermore, the article also mentions that Microsoft Gaming is still committed to Cloud Gaming. “Activision Blizzard games are enjoyed on a variety of platforms and we plan to continue to support those communities moving forward.”
Additionally, the company has also announced that the Xbox Game Pass has more than 25 million subscribers across supported platforms. So, it comes as no surprise that Microsoft Gaming would want to continue this by enticing more players to subscribe. And Activision Blizzard games coming to the Xbox Game Pass will certainly do that.
For now, however, both Activision Blizzard and Microsoft Gaming will continue to function independently. “Until this transaction closes, Activision Blizzard and Microsoft Gaming will continue to operate independently. Once the deal is complete, the Activision Blizzard business will report to me as CEO, Microsoft Gaming,” states the article.
Of course, all of this is compelling news for fanatics of Activision Blizzard franchises and subscribers of the Game Pass. Microsoft Corporation continues to expand its horizons with more and more acquisitions. And we can’t wait to see what the company comes up with next.
