Monster Hunter World Has Sold 23 Million Copies

Monster Hunter refuses to lose its momentum as Capcom has just confirmed that Monster Hunter World has crossed 23 million copies sold. Monster Hunter producer Ryozo Tsujimoto delivered a video statement today announcing the latest milestone for Monster Hunter World. He also confirmed that Monster Hunter Rise has sold 13 million copies and that the mobile-only Monster Hunter Now has reached 10 million downloads.

The Monster Hunter series continues to be as relevant as ever. Back in December, soon after the announcement of Monster Hunter Wilds during The Game Awards, players started going back in droves to play Monster Hunter World. The game has experienced exponential growth since December, effectively gaining a fresh restart after being dormant for the past few years.  

Since the beginning of January, Monster Hunter World has gained even more traction thanks to a deep sale on Steam, as well as many players coming back after playing Monster Hunter Now on mobile. I myself have felt the strong urge to jump back into some good old hunting. But instead of a familiar entry, I have been enthralled by 2017’s Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, which was convenient on a deep sale on the Nintendo eShop. 

Tsujimoto-san thanked the fans for their support over the years and briefly talked about the development of Monster Hunter Wilds. He states that the game is currently deep into development with more info planned to be given during Summer 2024, most likely during either Capcom’s own Direct or Geoff Keighley’s Summer Games Fest. Monster Hunter Wilds is set to release sometime in 2025. 

He also discussed Monster Hunter’s upcoming 20th anniversary in March. As a celebration, Capcom started a poll asking players to rank the No.1 monster out of the whopping 229 monsters in the series. The results of the poll will be announced in the March alongside the series 20th anniversary. 

Monster Hunter World was released in January 2018 for PC, Xbox One, and PS4. It shot the series into the mainstream introducing millions of new players in the franchise including myself. The game was meant to be the next iteration of the Monster Hunter franchise, bringing it into the new generation both in terms of its technology and its player base. Safe to say, it was an extremely successful endeavor for Capcom.

If there’s one thing that I can definitively say, it’s that it is never a bad time to play some Monster Hunter. Whether you’re playing one of the classics or the new entries like World and Rise, Monster Hunter is evergreen, and its refusal to fade into obscurity even after many years only serves as a testament to its timeless nature.
