Bloober finds itself super busy these days, as it picks up pace on the development of another project right after Silent Hill 2. The Polish developer made an appearance during Xbox’s Partner Preview showcase, revealing another game that it’s working on. Cronos: The New Dawn looks amazingly interesting, with the “thriller” vibe settling in quite well. However, I’m not sure if that name is doing the game any favors.
This is Bloober’s first go in the survival horror category as far as developing an original franchise is concerned. While the developer has won millions of hearts with the Silent Hill 2 remake, it’s worth noting that remaking an existing title is vastly different compared to working on a new IP from scratch. It’s likely, however, that Bloober ends up hitting the nail on the head with this project as well.
Welcome to Cronos: The New Dawn – a pulse-pounding, third-person survival horror game by Bloober Team! Delve deep into the heart of a deadly struggle against overwhelming foes while uncovering the mysteries of a twisted time travel story. Set in a grim world where Eastern European brutalism meets retro-futurist technology, Cronos: The New Dawn lets you experience a gripping story that straddles the line between past and future,” reads the official release.
From the looks of it, Cronos draws inspiration from a range of games out there, including The Callisto Protocol, and the most obvious, the Dead Space series. The trailer shows a dysmorphic monster, a character in an environmental suit who is seemingly the protagonist, a woman who plays chess with said character, and, an eerie atmosphere that’s as unwelcoming as they come.
It comes out next year for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
Bloober Has Proved Itself With The Quality Of The Silent Hill 2 Remake
While not out for Xbox yet, the Silent Hill 2 remake is a celebration of the original classic from 2001, all thanks to Bloober Team’s sheer effort that went into the making of this masterpiece. The developer has projects like Layers of Fear and Observer under its belt, but nothing like Silent Hill 2 has ever fallen into its portfolio before, so the pressure on Bloober must’ve been intense.
It’s safe to say that Silent Hill 2 is a success, selling over 1 million copies in a week and making the case for Bloober to be entrusted with more Silent Hill remakes stronger.
