Speaking to Bloomberg, Capcom corporate officer Yoshikazu Shimauchi discussed the publisher’s recent financial performance and the possibility of continuing Pragmata as a franchise. Pragmata recently surpassed 2.5 million copies in sales, exceeding all of the company’s expectations.

According to Shimauchi, the likelihood of a sequel is “very high” following the game’s sales success. That is not quite the same as an official announcement, but it is about as encouraging as these early corporate comments get.

Capcom first revealed Pragmata in 2020, only for the project to face multiple delays. Its unusual lunar setting, science-fiction mystery, and pairing of Hugh Williams with the android Diana kept players interested, but the prolonged silence also raised questions about whether the game would ever arrive.

It did, and Capcom now appears satisfied with the outcome.

A New Capcom Franchise May Be Taking Shape

Capcom has spent years benefiting from major properties such as Resident EvilMonster Hunter, and Street Fighter. Turning Pragmata into another ongoing series would give the publisher a fresh science-fiction franchise rather than another revival from its extensive catalog.

More importantly, Shimauchi’s comments suggest Capcom is not judging the game as a one-off experiment. The company seemingly believes there is enough player interest and enough commercial momentum to explore this world again.

Pragmata 2 is not official yet, but with a senior Capcom officer openly calling a sequel very likely, Diana and Hugh’s story may be far from finished.
